U.S. asks Israel to consider talks on land By UPI Staff United Press International July 27, 2006

JERUSALEM (UPI) -- U.S. officials have advised Israel to consider a deal that would give the Shaba Farms area, occupied by Israel since 1967, to Lebanon.

The issue was broached by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a meeting Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, The Jerusalem Post reported Thursday.

The Post said the Israeli government pushed the idea aside after bitter fighting and Israeli loses Wednesday at Bint Jbail, the Hezbollah capital in Lebanon.

When asked about the possibility of Israel relinquishing the area, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mark Regev told the Post, "As far as I know, no one in the international community believes that Shaba Farms is part of Lebanon."

The area, which covers about 100 square miles on the border Israel shares with Lebanon and Syria, is considered by the United Nations to be part of Israeli-occupied Syria, and the Post said Syria would be unlikely to give the area up to Lebanon if asked.

How many voices will be raised against Israel to give up more of it's STATE before this is over?

Psalm 83:

1 O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still.

2 See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads.

3 With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish.

4 "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more."

5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you-

6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites,

7 Gebal, [a] Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre.

8 Even Assyria has joined them to lend strength to the descendants of Lot. Selah

9 Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,

10 who perished at Endor and became like refuse on the ground.

11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,

12 who said, "Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God."

13 Make them like tumbleweed, O my God, like chaff before the wind.

14 As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,

15 so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace.

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Question to my fellow freepers, this is a very unusual Israeli conducted war. Usually they by pass strong points and cut off supply lines. Then conduct clean up operations. This war effort seems to be far more slow and methodical. Could it be that they are concerned about WMD that could have been smuggled out of Iraq and into Syria and also into the hands of the Hezzbollah.

I would say that's part of it. I think their intelligence is picking up something.

You know this sort of crap was fed to Condi by her idiot Deputy Undersecretary for Political Affairs and former advisor to the 2004 Kerry campaign - Nicholas Burns.

Only an idiot like Burns could, at this particular time attach any "we need some land for peace" component to the current negotiations; as if the land in question had any thing at all to do with Hezbolla's instigations or would make the non-government in Beirut anymore capable of reigning in Hezbolla.

Either Condi needs to fire Burns, immediately or she needs to be fired. Her reliance on Burns, Hagle and other congressional RINOS is what has made the Bush foreign policy look lately like it was schizophrenic, or lost. Bush has clear objectives and principles and is willing to stick to them. Condi does not know how to do that, and following Burns advice makes her look like she is - indecisive.

Bush should make an immediate recess appointment of John Bolton as Secretary of State.

If Israel ends up giving up more land as a result of this, the attacks will NEVER stop. Any village idiot knows this. Maybe we should hire some village idiots for our State Dept--it would be an improvement.
