LOS ANGELES, July 26 Oliver Stone, that symbol of everything about Hollywood that conservatives love to hate, is getting help in marketing his newest movie from an unlikely ally: the publicity firm that helped devise the Swift boat campaign attacking John Kerrys Vietnam record in the 2004 presidential race.
And so Mr. Stone, the director of the antiwar movies Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July, now finds himself sharing something in common with a group of Vietnam veterans who insisted that their comrades who demonstrated against the war were misguided, misled or traitorous.
Mr. Stone said that he knew nothing of the firms political work until he was contacted by a reporter on Wednesday. The directors World Trade Center, a largely factual drama about the rescue of two police officers from ground zero after the 9/11 attacks, is to be released on Aug. 9 by Paramount Pictures. But it is already drawing rave reviews in some unlikely quarters.
L. Brent Bozell III, president of the conservative Media Research Center and founder of the Parents Television Council best known for its campaigns against indecency on television and for stiffer penalties on broadcasters called it a masterpiece and sent an e-mail message to 400,000 people saying, Go see this film.
Cal Thomas, the syndicated columnist, wrote last Thursday that it was one of the greatest pro-American, pro-family, pro-faith, pro-male, flag-waving, God Bless America films you will ever see.
(Mr. Stone, for his part, has insisted in the past that the film is not a political movie, while acknowledging in a recent interview that this mantra had been handed to him by his employers.)

We'll see. None of this computes with the Oliver Stone I know, and reeks of wishful thinking on Cal's part. I think Stone would make as hands-off a movie as possible, but leave room for various interpretations, politically.
I'll buy a ticket to another movie and see this, maybe, since I don't give money to propagandists for Fidel Castro.
Dummie implosion in 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1.....
No, that's simply not true. What the SBVT contend is that John Kerry grossly misrepresents his war record. Period, nothing else. The MSM carry water for Kerry by grossly misrepresenting the position of the SBVT.
It's only been five years. It's too soon! I wonder what the families have to say.
I have heard more than one conservative writer applaud the movie. I think we should reserve our judgement until it comes out and FRs here see it.
I'm not seeing Superman, I don't care how good people say it is, because of the clear omission of SM's motto..Truth, Justice, etc.
let's wait to read what Ann Coulter has to say about the movie
Love him or hate him, Stone is a good film maker.
I am inclined to believe Cal Thomas and Bozell and I'm excited to see this movie
Funny how they failed to include "natural born killers" of notable movies hes directed.
The other night we saw a trailer for this movie.
I made my wife pinky-swear that if I ever do anything heroic enough to warrant a Hollywood movie she will forbid Nicholas Cage to have anything to do with it.
I was just repeating all the liberal angst about United 93. If it gets good conservative reviews I will probably see it.
I figure, if it's acurate and apolitical, Liberal critics will hate it. If it's full of conspiracy theories blaming George Bush, the CIA, FBI black helicopters and space aliens, then the Oscar buzz will be deafening. That the NY Times is now officially looking down their noses at this film, is a good sign.
Cal Thomas really liked it...and he's pretty much as conservative as you can get...
I know that, but I wonder if he understood it.
Good idea.
