I remember in the days prior to 911 our government told us that it's not a matter of if but when a nuclear explosion will happen in a US city. At that time we were assuming it would be some crazy American teen that would learn how to build such a bomb on the internet or in some library.
These Islamic terrorists will have it sometime. It's a matter of time. Iran is scary. I think we could see a nuclear explosion happening between Iran and Israel. Israel would be nuts not to shoot first if threatened.

You are right.
We are in a long term struggle. I think that Americans often tie this struggle to one event...9/11. The truth is, however, it's been going on a very long time.
What we have to realize is that 9/11 was only the point at which we could no longer just ignore the current struggle. The point at which open hostilities began for US. The point at which the attack was sufficient to wake us up to the fact that Islamist extremists declared war on us thirty years before that during the Carter administration.
I think we are in for a long haul, perhaps longer than my lifetime. Life is scary and always has been. This is our generation's challenge. But I believe we are up to the task and while there will be setbacks, in the end we will win
