Last Call For Rolling Rock Beer No Longer Brewed In Latrobe

LATROBE, Pa. -- Wednesday marked the last day Rolling Rock will be brewed and bottled at Latrobe Brewing Company.

The official last day for workers will be Monday.

A deal was put in place to allow Rolling Rock workers to keep their jobs.

The union approved an agreement with City Brewing on Sunday.

The Wisconsin-based company will buy the Latrobe Brewery from In-Bev USA.

The Rolling Rock beer brand was sold to Anheuser-Busch.

Production of the beer will move to Newark, N.J.

I'm all for free enterprise, but Anheuser-Busch is going to mess up Rolling Rock.

Rolling Rock is just about the only American beer I like, with the exception of some microbrews and Yuengling Black & Tan. AB will screw this up, sure as shooting! *sigh*

I just bought 2 cases of RR yesterday, and squirrelled them away in the garage, for posterity (and me).

A-Bs purchase of the brand is the end of RR. It's now officially piss-water, like all A-B products are. Sad but true.

A smart micro-brewery would grab the physical plant and staff, in a minute.

I drank Rolling Rock quite a lot when I lived in Ohio (and Stroh's, too, which has since gone the way of the duck-billed platypus). Rock was quite refreshing on hot days, a crisp pilsener-style lager with more flavor than most of its American cousins. Now, it will be brewed in New Jersey, presumably next to an oil refinery. That's progress for you. Cheers, old "33".

Actually, Newark has some of the best water in the nation. Thirty years ago there were some great Breweries in Newark including Krueger, Ballantine, and Hensler.


I can still hear Mel Allen calling a homer in Yankee Stadium....."There goes another Ballantine Blast!"

Rolling Rock is pretty darn good alright. I have a very closefriend who is a beer distributor. He's got plenty of cases of it for the future.....

It would be about like the folks at Pabst trying to duplicate Gennie Cream! As a red-wine-bibber, this is one of the few beers (ales) I actually prefer!

Indeed! And not just near the refinery but also near the chemical plant, the CoGen plant, the major international airport and the primary truck route in the area! Over all the the A-B eagle does flap it's neon wings.

Never cared for RR that much. Yueling B&T is much better. They brew Sam Adams at Yueling too.
