Hadn't seen this (historic) press conference posted in full yet....

Thanks for posting it in full. It really is a historical news conference. To hear the Iraqi Prime Minister speak with clarity and a good command of what his government must do, further cements in my mind he was a very wise alternative to former prime minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari.
The former,IMHO, merely representing the SCIRI and Islamic Dawa Parties, the two large, main Shia parties, and a little known Shia that does show he can rise above religious convictions and party ideologies to run a national unity government that will eventually decapitate this insurgency, as well as most probably manage the enormouse reconstruction programs this country needs to recover from some thirty years of almost total neglect.
Iraq has to much fairly easy to get at oil to have to go down the tubes. The Iraqi people in many areas of the country have literall embraced the new concept of free democratically elected governments, that must perform in the best interest of the country or find they will be voted out each four years.
Iraq has not had such a situation since they where created for the most part. With the horrors of Saddam slowly fading away, the fear factor receeding, the vision of their country getting better as time goes by, there is every chance that the majority of Iraqi will continue to support this new form of government. One that can eventually raise their standard of living and provide a blanket of security that will still offer personal freedoms for all.
This accomplishment is what much of the world continue to not have acknowledged. Meanwhile, the Syrians, Saudis, Persians etc., continue to watch carefully. And wonder, why not they can transition into a like type scenario.
GWB is has not IMHO, been the least bit rhetorical in his often pronouncments, that all mankind have a desire to live in a free society, and have the power that lies within the ballot box.
