Columnists don't compose their own headlines. That's left to headline writers at the various publications who publish their work. The length and depth of the headline can vary widely, based on page format (one column, two column, etc).
So, each publication writes headlines to fit.
Bad grammar and all...
In every single case, the editor or publisher at least ran their suggested title past me, and in many cases insisted that I write the title. Perhaps things work differently in the blogosphere -- but there's absooutely no reason why they should.
Especially considering results such as this.
