I serve on a board of an agency that is supposed to fight child abuse. I think I'm the token conservative.
There is a real sense that the entire domestic violence "industry" is still the domain of 1970's feminists. In fact, our local women's shelter held a fund raiser where "Vagina Monologues" was presented.
(For the record, the corresponding "Penis Monologues" were not performed, even though it was short, only lasting 15 minutes.)
Everytime I see a PSA that fights domestic violence, you see that it is the old "women victims, men evil" refrain.
Well, my local family court judge tells me that 1/4 to 1/3 of those doing the hitting are female significant others.
When it comes to child abuse, men tend towards violence, but women tend to kill their kids when they hit (5 kids in a bath tub, etc). Women vastly outnumber men in neglect charges. And, sadly, women are catching up with men in the sex abuse cases too.
I have to wonder, as parents go through supervised visitation, whether the "men are evil abusers" stuff that is taught to our social workers put men at an unfair disadvantage as they seek to prove that they are fit fathers, and (worse yet!) make a huge blind spot that cannot see an abusive mother.
This has got to be the greatest unintentionally funny line ever written.
