Caught a re-run of the old HBO sex-in-the-city show on some cable station last night as I was flipping channels: One of the scenes had the protagonist (between copulating) getting a pair of shoes as compensation for "being single" and not having kids.
Show ended at that point with her claiming that the "modern single woman has to wear a different pair of shoes." Same thing: Kids = 0.00 and are a mess, noisy, a drag and a bother and a nuisance.
Shoes = "Very important, and are a symbol of an important lifestyle that makes me feel good about myself."

Boy you would have hated the columns that show was based on -- they've been sweetened up considerably for TV.
