Four men accused of using the Internet to solicit sex from minors were arrested during a two-week undercover operation by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott's office. Arrested in July were: 25-year-old William Noel Shrum of The Woodlands; 26-year-old Guadalupe ``Wally'' DeLaGarza the third of College Station; 40-year-old Robert Wayne Ramirez of Needville; and 51-year-old Calvin Hoddy Hannah Junior of Owasso, Oklahoma. That's what the A-G's office announced in a news release Tuesday. All four were lured to Shenandoah, Texas, by investigators in the A-G's office who posed as minors on the Internet. De La Garza allegedly engaged in sexual conversations on Myspace-dot-com with an undercover investigator he thought was a 14-year-old girl. The news release says he was arrested for attempted sexual assault of a minor and the unlawful carrying of a weapon after arriving in Shenandoah with condoms, a digital camera, rope restraints and a handgun. Shrum, Ramirez and Hannah were all arrested for attempted sexual assault of a child and online solicitation of a minor. Hannah drove 480 miles from Owasso to Shenandoah for the meeting
Six months is not nothing. But I agree. He will have a problem. I'm not sure whether he was charged as a sex offender or not. I do know that he was charged with a federal communications charge. Fortunately, he had a job with people who knew about the charges and worked on up until he went to jail. So he will have good references. But he will certainly face challenges.
The challenges make the man. I'm sorry I characterized him as damage (in the war on perverts). Nothing will be as easy now, but he seems to starting on the right note, volunteering to teach other inmates. I would expect him to succeed as long as he doesn't get bitter like his mom.
Thanks. His mom will be ok, too, I think. She's a good lady. I don't know what I'd be like if it was my child.
If these were cops, they made sure that he knew the age of the girl. I'm guess they had him dead to rights and momma ain't trying to hear that
Yes, he knew and mom knows, too. But there was a lot of people in the chat room and they were all on and talking at once. Not all were 14. They ranged in ages up to 17, just a year younger than him. He's paying very dearly for a stupid mistake.
I paid dearly for 40 years after being a victim of child sexual abuse. Being abused for several years by two different men puts a little different perspective on things. However, anyone wanting to have sex with a child should be put away.
I spoke with all my children about the dangers of not knowing who they were talking to and what was said in chat rooms.
I'm sure that your horrible experience does make you a lot more careful about these things. And I agree that anyone wanting to have sex with kids should be put away. Children should know about the dangers of chat rooms. Our friend would agree with all of this. The sad thing is that he does not fit within any of these descriptions. And good for you for putting the past behind and going forward--and protecting your own children. My best friend was sexually abused by her father. It's devastating and I know through her how little things can unexpectedly bring the experiences back again.
Personally, I'd feel more comfortable if there was, at least, an encounter with a minor before the cops arrive. Goes to intent. The minor would be in on the sting.
In a prostitution sting, the prostitute needs to quote a price or suggest performing a sex act for money before the cops break out the handcuffs. In a child predator sting, there ought to first be a documented suggestion of sexual contact to a minor in their presence.
