Minutemen to build high-security border fence near Palominas
KVOA Tucson Channel 4 News ^ | David Marino

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps is getting ready to build another security fence.

The high-security fence will be constructed 20 miles east of Palominas.

Richard Hodges is looking forward to seeing the fence constructed on his property.

"It is not uncommon to run upon 20 or 30 people," Hodges said.

Hodges has seen his share of illegal crossers. He's lived on his Cochise County ranch his entire life.

He says many of the illegal immigrants fall prey to robbers, once they get close to the Arizona-Mexico border.

"You see signs of violence up here. You see where scuffs have been made. It seems like massive fighting, maybe a little blood on the ground."

Hodges is hoping to keep the problems off his ranch with the help of the Israeli-style fence.

"It's going to be 14 feet tall, two barriers and the sample that I saw shows the wire is really heavy wire," Hodges said.

It will also include new technology like face recognition cameras. Those cameras are being provided by Digilant Systems, a company out of Alabama.

Carmen Mercer, Vice President of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, says, "It has been shown to detect and identify correctly-targeted objects, people versus animals, 10-to-100 times faster than many vision-based motion detectors."

Mercer says they'll test out the new technology first, before buying it.

No matter what, she believes the fence will be successful.

Construction is targeted for the month of August.

1. The clown in the WH needs to take a lead from the Brits: "European officials are preparing to launch sea patrols around Spain's Canary Islands to stem the flow of illegal immigrants trying to get to Europe."

2. Anyone have any info on the alleged diversion of contributions? I used to charge $25 a month for construction or other MM items to assist. Would like to do so with confidence.

Thanks

Of course the Open Borders crowd is spending their time on the 2500+ threads saying this will never happen, That Simcox is a fraud and will never complete it and is pilfering the money with Keyes.

They have only been at it for the last 2 weeks, while the AP,UPI,Washinton Times, and assorted leftist bloggers lift and feed on the "fraud" charges.

I think the MMDC will have the last laugh.

Just doing things the FedGOV should be.

So I guess the cool weather of August is going to help. I will bookmark this thread to see if work actually begins and to see if the fence looks anything like the one pictured. Any idea how long the fence is going to be?

Who is in this "open borders crowd"? I've seriously only seen about 3 people on FR who are in favor of open borders, and one has been banned.

Obviously none of you has been checking out the Michelle Malkin blogs on this group lately. It's not just the WSJ and the NYTimes that are calling for some financial accountablity. From what I'm seeing, the Minutemen are bailing from Simcox and his organization.

In fact, the Texas Minutemen are in total revolt: http://www.txminuteman.org/mambo/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=321

Right now there are no building permits that have been issued, and the only fence built is 5-strand barbed wire.

While I applaud the idea of civilian patrol of the border (think of it as "neighborhood watch" on the border) we need to exercise caution until the financial (and leadership) issues are cleared up.

You can go to KVOA, see the interview with the rancher, and Carmen Miranda; the financier, recruiter and spokesperson.

KVOA is a local station and they are not critical of Simcox and MMDC.

KVOA is a DNC-NBC station, fyi.

Your not keeping up. The permit has been issued by the county.
The steel for the fence is on order, it's going up.

I saw it. It didn't give the length of the fence. The last I heard is that it is less than a mile long and now the MCDC is backing down on the design shown for the fence. Simcox has now set a hard date for August but we already know that it will not be the fence he used to raise money with.

"Your not keeping up."

Have the financials been opened up to public inspection, with an accounting of the money raised so far?

Have the IRS non-profit papers been filed?

Have the Texas guys been pacified and brought back into the fold?

Thought I'd ask.

This is what I would call it:

Manure spreading. Lots of old rehashed excrement, nothing new really, no facts, lots of rehashed charges that dont stick and have never been prosecuted. Lots being flung for smell and entertainment and to see what sticks. When they post enough, the Washington Times, the Compost, NYSlimes, AP and Reuters will pick up the story and rehash it again. This has already happened from previous threads.

Wont make a whit of difference to the MMDC. Apparently the negative posters do not trust the IRS and AZ Attorney General, the Cochise County Sherriff's department, the Cochise County tax assessors or any other law enforcement to do their job. So they are flinging manure.

Flying manure has such a nice smell and is entertaining to these folks. Especially if they have a politically motivated grudge not founded in reality.

I am surprised youand your ACLU friends are not protesting the prototype face recognition technology that is going in with the fence.

Yep, the MMDC are just doing things the FedGOV wont with the unlimited ability to print money, reassign personnel, write and enforce laws.

Tell me if Simcox will lie about the below what makes you think he isn't lieing about everything else?

Simcox on Ladd Fence -
The Minutemen also have built nearly 10 miles of border fence that's styled after Israel's Gaza Strip fence, with four layers of razor wire and fences, he said. The group has hired a contractor to help because it's having trouble recruiting volunteers during the extreme June heat.

The fence has cost approximately $300,000 per mile, he said.

Why did Simcox once say it was too hot to build now, and that they would wait for cooler weather?
