Excellent question. I think this young man is incrediby foolish, yet I just don't think the court has a right to intervene. I wish him the best.
Maybe, maybe not. When I was in high school, a friend choose a second, more aggressive course of chemo to battle bone cancer and died within a week. Had he done nothing he probably could have finished his senior year, graduated, and lived through the summer. He wanted to fight, so I don't fault his choice.
Why do you think he's foolish? Someone posted to me that the odds are 25% in his case. I had a brother who had the same choice. Doctors at the Mayo Clinic where he was diagnosed gave him 3 - 6 months to live...after the first chemo treatment, which apparently is hell.. he decided to take matters into his own hands. Against the advice of all his Doctors, he did exactly what this young man wants to do...build him immune system back by diet. My brother lived another seven years. Most of them very good years too, I might add.
