Original story if you're interested.
The aircraft's designer apparently started his life at Honda designing anti-lock brake systems.

Well, I'm no expert, but I would think, forcing the air over the wing would create greater lift, and shorten takeoff requirements. That's the idea, and it's not a new one.

"Well, I'm no expert, but I would think, forcing the air over the wing would create greater lift, and shorten takeoff requirements."
Shorter takeoffs aren't the problem.
The problems are things like burning too much fuel for too little speed...maintenance...reliability...etc.
Currently these problems are dealt with only adequately.

That Picture isn't a Honda, that's an Eclipse 500.
The Honda article yesterday was talking about 4 years before they even get FAA certification.

Yep, I know it's an Eclipse, which is why I responded to your mention of the Eclipse!!
I heard on KKOB this morning that they just got an FAA certification, but I don;t think it';s the full one yet, I'd have to check the site.
So for everyone else, yep, that's an E-500 Eclipse, "born and bred in the land of the free", as Ernest P. Worrell would say.

Right now the Eclipse 500 has a leg up on Honda Jet. They have FAA Initial Cert, about $1.5MM price tag and an operating cost of about $372.00 an hour. The Honda Jet may be the darling of general aviation right now, but they are 3-4 years away from carrying a passenger. The Honda looks nice, it's exciting, but it is going to come in way over priced to be a player in the air taxi business.
