"White House spokesman Tony Snow said that the administration's plan to use National Guard troops to assist the U.S. Border Patrol means border security is already under way and that Congress can turn its attention to the rest of the immigration debate.

Border security (as a result of the dog and pony show of the National Guard) is "under way?"

Could have fooled me and millions of like-minded who don't believe that for one minute.

Poor Tony, wonder how he can sleep at night, knowing he has to parrot the Administration’s “line” such as this crap.

Mr. Kyl and Mr. Cornyn said yesterday that the administration still has more to do.

" They said the Department of Homeland Security still releases 600 illegal alien Salvadorans each week, has slacked off on punishing employers who hire illegal aliens and is still short of the number of detention beds and Border Patrol agents that Mr. Bush agreed to in 2004.

And those are ony Salvadorans and the ones being reported. How many other THOUSANDS are being "caught and released" (always reminds me of fishing) as well as the thousands that ICE refuses to take custody of?

Poor Tony, wonder how he can sleep at night, knowing he has to parrot the Administration’s “line” such as this crap.

"What we are offering today is what I believe is the last best hope for a comprehensive immigration reform to pass before the end of the year," Mr. Cornyn told reporters yesterday.

Mr. Kyl, who is up for re-election this year in a border state, said everyone he meets wants to talk about immigration. And, he said, they all have the same question about the comprehensive immigration legislation that he and Mr. Cornyn have lobbied for for years: "Why should we believe that you're going to enforce a new law when the government is not enforcing the current law?"

Yes Mssrs. Kyl and Coryn, that's the 64K question and most Americans believe not only the President is not serious about border security (and is hypocritical on this issue) but so are you two and most of the the Senate:

"Earlier this month, however, Mr. Cornyn and Mr. Kyl were among the overwhelming majorities of senators who rejected efforts to pay for additional fencing and new Border Patrol agents as part of the Homeland Security Appropriations bill approved two weeks ago.

THANK GOD FOR THE HOUSE.

If they cave, we are all in big trouble.

It seems that very few in Congress (at least the Senate) are serious about doing anything substantive about the Immigration issue.

Nevertheless, without any leadership, is it any wonder why this is so?

bushbuck

"Although Mr. Bush did not directly address the calls for immediate new spending, he pressed yesterday for a guest-worker program at a naturalization ceremony for three immigrant soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, saying "all elements of the problem must be addressed together, or none of them will be solved at all."

Its early, I'm wide awake and on my second cup of coffee and ready and eager to debate this issue with all the Bush Shamnesty apologists/supporters

Where are you? Come out, come out where ever you are?

I think that our neglected open borders are Mr. Bushs most neglected and ignored problem. I don't like his allowing congress to spend so much of my money either.
In both matters I just don't think he gets it.

That was a great post and thanks for it...

No doubt the BushRobots/Liberal Republican/Koolaid Drinkers now have you on their bad list. You will now be subjected to insults and adhomim attacks to defend their beloved "W" and avoid the seriousness of this issue.

It is good that we have true conservatives on this forum like yourself. Keep up the good fight regards DN

Just my gut...

Kyl, in the past, has always been outspoken about US national security, border control, and enforcement. He has never wavered, or compromised about his message until recently .

I think (just a gut feeling, mind you), in recent times, has been getting heat from the "powers that be" in the GOP. Thus, a big part of his campaign war chest.

Does that excuse him? No.

He has an upcoming nasty battle in Nov. against a former DNC chair here in AZ, who is a vile, filthy snake. He is quietly running his campaign here in AZ; once the fall election season hits, all fangs will come out and he will try to lie about and slander Kyl every which way from Sunday.

I think the GOP has basically Kyl in their hip pocket, as opposed to his loyal constituents, who has supported him over the years.

Just my .02, and I'll take change.
