"White House spokesman Tony Snow said that the administration's plan to use National Guard troops to assist the U.S. Border Patrol means border security is already under way and that Congress can turn its attention to the rest of the immigration debate.

Border security (as a result of the dog and pony show of the National Guard) is "under way?"

Could have fooled me and millions of like-minded who don't believe that for one minute.

Poor Tony, wonder how he can sleep at night, knowing he has to parrot the Administration’s “line” such as this crap.

Mr. Kyl and Mr. Cornyn said yesterday that the administration still has more to do.

" They said the Department of Homeland Security still releases 600 illegal alien Salvadorans each week, has slacked off on punishing employers who hire illegal aliens and is still short of the number of detention beds and Border Patrol agents that Mr. Bush agreed to in 2004.

And those are ony Salvadorans and the ones being reported. How many other THOUSANDS are being "caught and released" (always reminds me of fishing) as well as the thousands that ICE refuses to take custody of?

Poor Tony, wonder how he can sleep at night, knowing he has to parrot the Administration’s “line” such as this crap.

"What we are offering today is what I believe is the last best hope for a comprehensive immigration reform to pass before the end of the year," Mr. Cornyn told reporters yesterday.

Mr. Kyl, who is up for re-election this year in a border state, said everyone he meets wants to talk about immigration. And, he said, they all have the same question about the comprehensive immigration legislation that he and Mr. Cornyn have lobbied for for years: "Why should we believe that you're going to enforce a new law when the government is not enforcing the current law?"

Yes Mssrs. Kyl and Coryn, that's the 64K question and most Americans believe not only the President is not serious about border security (and is hypocritical on this issue) but so are you two and most of the the Senate:

"Earlier this month, however, Mr. Cornyn and Mr. Kyl were among the overwhelming majorities of senators who rejected efforts to pay for additional fencing and new Border Patrol agents as part of the Homeland Security Appropriations bill approved two weeks ago.

THANK GOD FOR THE HOUSE.

If they cave, we are all in big trouble.

It seems that very few in Congress (at least the Senate) are serious about doing anything substantive about the Immigration issue.

Nevertheless, without any leadership, is it any wonder why this is so?

bushbuck

"Although Mr. Bush did not directly address the calls for immediate new spending, he pressed yesterday for a guest-worker program at a naturalization ceremony for three immigrant soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, saying "all elements of the problem must be addressed together, or none of them will be solved at all."

Its early, I'm wide awake and on my second cup of coffee and ready and eager to debate this issue with all the Bush Shamnesty apologists/supporters

Where are you? Come out, come out where ever you are?

I think that our neglected open borders are Mr. Bushs most neglected and ignored problem. I don't like his allowing congress to spend so much of my money either.
In both matters I just don't think he gets it.

"I don't like his allowing congress to spend so much of my money either.

No one does, at least not us Conservatives.

Two of President Bush's most loyal supporters in Congress yesterday asked him to request that more than $3.5 billion in "emergency" funding be spent immediately on securing the border -- rejecting the White House's assertion that enough is being done along the border

The ol devil is in the details as usual is missing.

Inquiring minds want to know WHAT this emergency funding is going to go towards?

And if Kyl and Coryn all of sudden have their knickers all bunched up, (it appears they are getting a lot of heat from their constituents) then WHY did they vote against funding for fence and additional border guards, just last week?

Thus my charge that they are all hypocrites.

Would be glad to check if you could enlighten me with additional info.

Agree that it was childish and over the top.

However, for us who are so frustrated at W's and Congress's [un]wilingnes to tackle this troubling and security-related issue, while reading the excuses made by supporters who argue that W is serious about securing our borders, is simply amazing.

That said, I see less and less as time goes by. Perhaps they may be finally seeing the light (truth) or they are afraid or ashamed to admit that they continue to support Bush (on this issue) regardless of the fact that his position is misguided and misplaced.

I think Mr. Bush wants a united North America. I don't.

I agree, and neither do I.

In the last two months my Russian stepdaughter's immigration priority date has regressed backwards 4.5 years. She has been waiting since August of 2002 to immigrate here as the adult daughter of a citizen, and as such she is in the top priority. When we started this process it took 3.5 years for her to immigrate here legally. With what has happened in the last two months she now has 5 years and 8 months more to wait, and this is in the best family category. She is now further away from coming here than she was 4 years ago. Legal immigrants from China and India have the same problem. However, if you are coming from Mexico the dates have advanced.

There have been almost twice as many legal immigrants from Mexico in the last 15 years as from all of Europe, and that does not include the illegal aliens here. Additionally, not everyone knows this, but there have been 7 amnesties since 1986, NOT ONE. Over 6 million have been granted amnesties. When it comes to immigration truth, justice and the American way are only for Superman comic books.

Last week I had a high ranking Congressional aide say to me, "I will not put this in writing, and I will deny ever having told you this. Every month the State Department and the DHS get together and decide how to divide up the visas. The immigrant priority date means nothing, and they just give that to potential immigrants to placate them. Most of the immigrant visas are going to Mexico." The person who told me this is a conservative Republican.

He gets it alright. He doesn't want them to leave. How pathetic that a U.S. President will stand up and say that we can't enforce the countries laws. He should change that to WON'T.

"We shouldn't be granting people automatic citizenship, nor is it possible to kick people out of the country," he said.

That was a great post and thanks for it...

No doubt the BushRobots/Liberal Republican/Koolaid Drinkers now have you on their bad list. You will now be subjected to insults and adhomim attacks to defend their beloved "W" and avoid the seriousness of this issue.

It is good that we have true conservatives on this forum like yourself. Keep up the good fight regards DN
