I realize they don't have the military to do anything about Hezbollah, but the government officials have rejected letting international forces help them do something about Hezbollah.

In the Arab mind someone can be a failure and/or inept but they can never admit it. This is why their countries become so disfunctional, even with tons of oil wealth (think Saudi Arabia), they are unable to admit they are on the wrong course and correct things.
