To the contrary. I really do appreciate your thoughtful scepcticism on the subject and desire to keep those with a decided opinion on our toes. My guess (and this is only a guess) is that you are slowly seeing evidence of some strange things going on out there in terms of climate and despite the relatively untrustworthy source are a bit concerned that maybe we ought to start thinkin about doing something.
That would make you a real conservative, not a thoughtless, dismissive ideologue parroting what s/he hears on the radio or reads from sources that only reinforce already formed opinions.
Thanks for referring me to Dr. Rowland.
I read his impressive CV, and, based on your report of dining with him, I have placed Dr. Rowland's name on my list of "The World's Most Persuasive People". Please understand that inclusion on the list is not necessarily an honor, in that the list also includes Alcibiades and Stephen of Cloyes.
Based on your recommendation, I bought a copy of "Collapse" yesterday, which I started reading on my way home. So far, it is a very entertaining "read". I intend to finish that tbook before I "critique" it.
I think that my willingness to read your references shows that I am not a "...thoughtless, dismissive ideologue...[who only] reads...sources that...reinforce already formed opinions."
However, I gather from your comment that Michael Crighton is a "writer" that you did not read the speech he delivered at the California Institute of Technology, which I sent to you.
Perhaps you are unaware of Dr. Crighton's educational achievements:
"...educated at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, A.B. (summa cum laude) 1964 (Phi Beta Kappa). He went on to become the Henry Russell Shaw Travelling Fellow, 1964-65 and Visiting Lecturer in Anthropology at Cambridge University, England, 1965. He graduated Harvard Medical School, gaining an M.D. in 1969 and did post-doctoral fellowship study at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, La Jolla, California, in 19691970."
Or do we have a case of "projection" here?
Hmmmmm.....
