I know what you're saying - and there is a trend amongst conservative to make arguments totally deviod of emotion. This is folly. Its a good way to get democrats elected.
Reagan was no pointy head logic-nerd. He used emotions quite effectively.
Sorry to get OT, but this trend toward "logic and only logic" thinking in conservaticve circles is scaring me. Ignore soccer moms at your own peril.
This story is heartbreaking but there are facts in the article. My kids are now adults but I have grandkids and I WILL keep control of them in a store the same way I did their parents whether they are in a cart or holding my hand. Parents should never trust someone else to make certain that an area is safe.
I think our drive toward logic is a reaction to the Democrats' removing logic completely from their decision calculus.
At least, mine was. When I realized that liberal ideology is at odds with provable fact, I had to become conservative.
Let's face it . . . no one does icky womanish touchy-feely like the lefties. NO one.
Reagan used emotion to explain things that he believed based on facts, logic, and reason.
That's the key.
To convince someone who deals only in emotion you must use emotion, but there is nothing wrong with a fact, logic, and reason based conclusion.
