at 30,000 we could just hire a personal trainer and send them to a fat farm for a lot less.

Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal hernias, infections, pneumonia and respiratory failure! And those were on the good days!

The best way to lose weight is to cut calories. I dropped 100 pounds on a low cal diet. But I wouldn't deny the effectiveness of bariatric surgery. I know two people who used that method, and both are much healthier and happier than before.
Getting to a normal weight changes your life. Whatever it takes to get there is worth it most of the time.

Having bariatric surgery is like cutting out 90% of your lungs to quit smoking.
The stomach and intestines aren't where the problems are.
Oh, and I say this as a fat chick who has lost more than 100 pounds without surgery.

Who still has quite a way to go, but will get there with the kishkes intact, thank you very much.

For me, keeping it off has been the real struggle. But one year after the end of the diet, I am down another pound on average. I weigh myself every day, and I am often hungry, as the severe diet lowered my metabolism. But I would rather spend every day hungry than be even one pound overweight ever again. I wasn't heavy enough to qualify for bariatric surgery. I would have considered it if I were.

I knew a woman who did that also. She suffered through stuff I won't repeat here - lost 150# and was drop dead gorgeous. Saw her about six years later and it was like nothing had ever changed. She had put a hundred or so back on. Sad. Don't understand how that can happen.

Two people I know had the surgery. One had it reversed and the other gained most of the weight back after 4 years.

I meant the woman had the surgery - not just a diet.

I know two people who used that method, and both are much healthier and happier than before. Have to concur, I've seen it basically save the life of someone I know. For the morbidly obese it is a life changing improvement. There's a risk of complications, but there's a hell of a lot more risk staying extremely fat for the rest of your life. Diabetics in particular can really improve their health this way.

One of my sisters is a textbook case. She's remained beautifully thin for several years. I think, a lot of it depends upon who you have for a doctor. There's a wonderful doctor in Fresno.

Congrats. I did it that way, too, though I would certainly not discount surgery as an option. I have somewhat of an addictive personality which has made it that much harder to keep the weight off. But it can be done.
I find many of my friends who only have known me as a fat person have me of being anorexic. Do you get that kind of stuff from your family? As time goes by, the accusations have lessened, however.

I know some people who have had the surgery and aren't that skinny.I don't know who dropped the ball here, the gov't or the Terrorist Tip Sheet which usually does good health stories. There's no breakdown into the various surgical procedures and techniques. I found nothing at the gov't site.
