Hey - didn't this also happen a couple of years ago? There was a young man in Colorado who did this a few years back. He got drunk and decided for no reason whatsoever to grab his hunting rifle and go take some pot-shots at cars driving down the interstate. He shot a 16 year-old girl through the neck, killing her instantly, while she is a passenger in a car driven by her boyfriend.
The shooter had blacked out and didn't remember any of it.
I remember him at his sentencing. He was crying his eyes out. IIRC, he wasn't given a terribly long sentence.

Hey - didn't this also happen a couple of years ago?In the Columbus area we had a highway sniper. A schizophrenic man would leave his parents' basement periodically to shoot at drivers on I-270 and I-71. A passenger was killed in one shooting.

As in death rather than life? No. As in 2nd Degree Manslaughter rather than 1st Degree Murder.

No. As in 2nd Degree Manslaughter rather than 1st Degree Murder. His lawyer somehow managed to convince a jury that the sniper had never planned to actually hurt anyone. Plus he was drunk. And he was really, really sorry.

Manslaughter, drunk driving and a few others are those rare crimes where "intent" is not one of the burdens of proof.

Our local DA has recently started filing manslaughter charges when Drunk Drivers or out of control drivers kill innocent people.

What's unbelievable to me is that the Admin Mod has removed this thread from Breaking News.....
Obviously he didn't consider this news important enough....
It's well sourced and now widely reported....
