Awesome story - You did right, and you did well. It's hard for most of us to fathom the situation, but I think you did exactly the right thing.

>>>>You don't have to go camping in the woods to run into bears--if you choose not to live in the city, you will eventually run across a bear.
That isn't even true anymore. We had bears running around in South Brunswick, Newark and West Orange NJ.

Kanawa, all the great dog stories are in your dog:-)
Thanks for pinging me to this very special story, and give my love to "Savage Sam." (couldn't resist:-)) He's already in the Hall of Fame.
To: kanawa
I don't know how to express how glad I am that you and Sam are safe and well. Brucey sends you and Sam a big two paws up!

Wow, that's awesome!! Glad you're safe.
I feel like I've missed all the fun at this late hour. My friend also has a Staffordshire, the sweetest dog, named Spanky. He's a beast, 110 pounds, a head the size and shape of a car battery, paws like catcher's mitts, and just the greatest personality. They are wonderful dogs.

Wow, I'm impressed!
Killing a bear with your bare hands (well, and a little knife).
What a man!
And what a great dog, too.

I didn't know that!
Bears are just opportunistic feeders...
Are there a lot of caves in New Jersey? The Ozarks are honeycombed with them...

Holy Moly, I want one of them knives. You never did say who manufactures the knife. I could possibly sell millions of them to my outdoor connections.
Maybe we could give Buck Knives a call and have them market the "Kanawa Bear Killer" model.

No. There aren't a lot of caves in NJ. But we have a large bear population and the over development, and blue state hunting laws are making them thrive.

Congratulations, kanawa. I salute you, sir, you did the right thing. Too bad the authorities won't let you have a proper sidearm out in the wilderness.
I too am curious about the model of the knife.
