urging the Americans to 'understand' the price being paid by ordinary Lebanese civilians

You mean the "ordinary Lebanese civilians" who have not only elected (yes, Lebanon is technically a democratic country) a government that is supportive of the Hezzie terrorists, but also celebrate every time the Hezzies launch a rocket into Israel?

OK..

I'll say it for you. It was justified.

When you fight a people you fight all of them.. their men, women, children, cats, dogs.. whatever. Their is no such thing as a "civilian" in wartime. The "civilians" support and supply the ones holding the guns.

Not a million enemy civilians is worth the life of ONE of our soldiers. Our soldiers are nothing more than our sons and now even daughters. They are not some automaton robots. They are our sons and daughters. To blazes with the enemie's sons and daughters.

Death to our enemies. Death to their whole stinking, rotten culture.

The carpet bombing of Dresden was absolutely necessary to take out the German industrial complex. The bearing factories of Dresden was critical and in those days they did not have precision bombing. You also think we shouldn't have dropped the 2 bombs on Japan too?

To put disportionate into perspective in WWII there were about 95,000 American Battle dead vs. about 1.5 million japanese battle dead. Tit for Tat does not win you a war. I suppose these same people accusing Israel of responding disportionately would also like the condemn the U.S. for responding disportiontely in WWII.

The bombing took place in March 1945, Allied armies were closing rapidly on Berlin, there was no hope left for the Nazis and victory was a matter of weeks away. It was not worth the deaths of 100,000s of civilians.

As for the bombing of Hiroshima, that was probably neccessary, sadly, because it saved far more lives, military and civilian, than it cost. As the invasion of Okinawa showed, the Japanese needed a shock to the system to weaken their fanatacism enough to accept the hoplessness of their situation. Nagasaki was overkill though IMHO...

I'm pretty sure if that were true, the coalition wouldn't have bothered invading Iraq or Afghanistan with troops, they'd have just nuked them into oblivion. Obviously, that would have created serious badwill around the world wouldn't it?

Bad will. Lol.

The world hates America no matter what it does.

The fact is, we do not have the will to do what we did in ww2 anymore. And we will never win another war because of it.

And because of that, more of OUR civilians will end up dying.

I have zero sympathy for the Germans in WWII and the bombing campaign was a critical factor in their destruction. You have no idea what those factories were producing or could potentially produce.

Easy to second guess 60 years later.

Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
Shalom Israel

The "World" doesn't hate america as much as a lot of people seem to think. I'm pretty sure that if america did commit an indiscriminate massacre of civilians rather than risk a single hair on an american soldier's head, america would soon realise the meaning of the term 'anti-americanism', when people started shunning america as a pariah state.
People's attitudes would be akin to that of South Africa during Apartheid, when people were boycotting South African products and hurting their economy.
And that sort of attitude would not really save american civilian lives in the long term.

As for a conflict to compare it too, how about that in Northern Ireland? The relative peace there is there now would not have been achieved if Britain had refused to learn the lessons of Bloody Sunday (which provided a boon of recruits to republican paramilitary organisations) and went in to South Armagh and Derry with shooting up Catholic areas with tanks and helicopter gunships every time a bomb went off in an English city...

I'd say we've had peace with Germany and Japan.

The Germans would have had to have had some imagination to contort blame on the war on the allies like they did in WWI, as for the Japanese, the occupation would have been a nightmare had it not been for the co-operation of the Emperor in persuading his subjects to submit to their conquerors....

and the scuzlums will have a heck of a time contorting their evil actions into blame on us or Israel.

We kill enough of them.. make it painful enough, and they will absolutely love the idea that we might leave them alone.

"As for a conflict to compare it too, how about that in Northern Ireland?"

That's a poor comparison to what Islamist nations (at times, with their British ally) have done to Israelis. That common English comparison does show us something, though.

British Mandate for Palestine (WW I to 1948)

ISRAEL'S INDEPENDENCE

ISRAEL 1948-1967

ISRAEL 1967-1991

ISRAEL 1991 TO PRESENT

If Israel had really targeted civilians as alleged by western Europeans, the death toll would be in the hundreds of thousands by now. Western Europeans are lying by exaggeration and omission, because they hate the people of Israel. They want to stop Israelis from defending themselves again, while seeing to it that no one restrains the Islamist nations.

Consider the source. The Observer if very left wing. Would love to see a rift between the U.K. and the U.S.

Divide and conquer.

How many civvies did the Brit bombers take out in Dresden? Hamburg?

Several thousand less than were killed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Germany and Japan started something they could not finish and paid the price.
