And the UN has been involved in the whole mess 60 years!
Looks like were about where they started.
From their website:
"After looking at various alternatives, the UN proposed the partitioning of Palestine into two independent States, one Palestinian Arab and the other Jewish, with Jerusalem internationalized (Resolution 181 (II) of 1947).
A French general with an Italian lineage and family name???
The worst of both worlds!
leading a UN force. The worse of ALL worlds.
No more UN for US-list
If people want on or off this list, please let me know.
Now that was Reaganesque.
"A French general with an Italian lineage and family name???"
Thy name is Napoleon.
Actually, I always thought Napolean was a Corsican.....but then we would both be wrong.
(Just kidding.)
You are absolutely right!
I stand corrected.
Yes, but Albee, I'm under the impression that Corsica was a province of Italy or I should say one of the many Italian principalities, for centuries.
If you look at the short heavy set Bonoparte, he looks Italian.
Amen!
Im pretty selective about what I watch on the tube these days. At my age 65 one learns to apportion ones diminishing allotment of time on the planet veeerrry carefully. These days its mostly wife, children, grandkids (arent they great?), a few friends, this computer and now this new -- and welcome -- opportunity to reach others via this column.
Of the new shows this season, one of my favorites is The Unit. Created by David Mamet -- The Untouchables (the Kevin Costner film) and Shawn Ryan --The Shield (with which I have a number of problems related to the X-rated dialog), it portrays the activities of a Delta Force team as they go about doing some of this countrys heavy lifting.
The May 16th episode of the series in question had the boys in Croatia to capture a suspected war criminal. He was to be turned over to a United Nations team for trial for genocide by an international court.
(Parenthetically, Im still wrestling with the growing use of US military in foreign actions of marginal demonstrated importance to vital US interests or defense but thats a bit off the topic of this blog. Give me enough time and Id be willing to wager that my devious little mind will hook up those topics in a future piece.)
The Units clever plan to capture this fellow was figuratively and literally blown apart by the grand-standing, publicity hound of a French colonel commanding the UN force, getting one of the Units men wounded and the subjects hapless wife and others on both sides needlessly killed.
As riveting as it was, it wasnt so much the on-screen action that caught my attention. It was the rapid-fire dozen or so highly disparaging remarks by members of the Unit about the United Nations and its abject ineffectiveness.
At one point I startled my wife when I began hooting and pumping my fist in the air. (Note to self: Self exercise more control.)
That dialog was co-written by Lynn Mamet, sister of co-creator David.
Friends, when we have high-level folks in Hollywood writing lines trashing the UN it is a very good thing for those of us who have long been advocates of getting the U.S. OUT of the UN and the UN OUT of the U.S.!
A small thing? Perhaps.
But when what had once been considered the stuff of conspiracy nut cases begins to creep into popular culture from, of all places, the generally utopian socialist denizens of Hollywood, there is something big in the wind.
BTW, the men of the Unit cleaned up the mess made by the botched UN operation, captured the bad guy and turned him over to the French colonel who promptly lost control of his captive and was killed by him. The bad guy wound up full of holes on the floor of the O Club at the Units home base when the bad guy and a few of his pals made a failed attempt at revenge on the members of the Unit.
Who said there are no more happy endings?
Watch this space in the coming months for more much, much more on the origins, history and activities of one of the most corrupt and dangerous organizations on the face of the earth the United Nations.
If enough of us get up to speed on the issue and make enough noise, perhaps that something in the wind will be the backs of the corrupt leaders of the UN as they sail away from our shores, taking their bankrupt one-world utopian socialist philosophy with them.
I just hope they leave the silverware -- but Im not holding my breath.
You are probably right.
One thing nobody ever asked Napolean was,
"Hey, Nappy.....Who's your daddy?"
The United Nations Interim FARCE in Lebanon
For more on UNIFIL and how its aided and abetted Hezbollah, I direct folks who haven't been yet over to today's live thread on events in the Middle East. Links there show just what UNIFIL's been up to over the years. And it AIN'T peacekeeping.
As to your first question, no, this is a peacekeeping mission. Their job, if they saw Hezbollah or some other group doing something inconsistent with how it is supposed to be, would be to knock on the door and say please don't do this. They wouldn't go in with guns blazing.
Nuff said.
Everywhere they have had a peace keeping mission they have protected the forces of terrorism and evil so they could make war on the innocent.
This is the most useless, evil,anti- God, anti-freedom, anti-peace, soulless, depraved, most corrupt, totally Satan conceived,self-serving government organization on this planet since the beginning of creation to date.
How many killed while the UN observed?
Just what is this article claiming? Is that hezbollah have enjoyed the protection of the UN for the last 26 years while they ammassed arms?
"Just what is this article claiming? Is that hezbollah have enjoyed the protection of the UN for the last 26 years while they ammassed arms?"
The article was just pointing out a fact that our one party media has neglected to mention in all of their talk about Lebanon.
Especially in light of their current mantra that the solution to the problem is to send in the UN.
But what you say is a fair gist of what has actually happened over the last 28 years.
Primakov said Israel's actions in Lebanon had gone "beyond the scope of a purely anti-terrorist operation" because it was destroying the country's infrastructure - not just that of Hizbollah - and its air raids had claimed many civilian lives.
Primakov also voiced alarm at Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's allegations that Iran had provoked the hostilities to divert world leaders' attention from its controversial nuclear program during last weekend's Group of Eight summit near St. Petersburg.
"There is a dangerous trend toward escalation behind Olmert's statements."
