A man on the national terrorist watch list was smoked out by a sharp-eyed undercover cop yesterday, The Post has learned.
Ashish Nayyar, an Indian national, was spotted puffing away on a cigarette by the plainclothes cop on the elevated No. 7 train platform at Queensboro Plaza around midnight Thursday, law-enforcement sources said.
The officer issued him a ticket for smoking. When he did a warrant check on the smoker's name, he discovered Nayyar was on the terror watch list.
Nayyar had a Patrolmen's Benevolent Association card on him from a relative who is on the force, police sources said.

His relative at the NYPD should be investigated, too.

After investigators confirmed his address and his employment, they decided that he was "not a player" in terrorism, a law-enforcement source said.
So how does this justify the headline. "'TERROR' BUST ON SUBWAY (NYC)?"
And I can tell you that watch list is BS because every time I fly my name shows up on the list.

why would a terrorist break a minor law like smoking in the subway...seems yto me any even partly competent operative would do everything he could not to draw attention to himself. I doubt this guy is anybody important

Good find - thanks for posting. I always pick up the Post during the week on my commute but would have missed the Saturday edition.

Nayyar had a Patrolmen's Benevolent Association card on him from a relative who is on the force, police sources said. I hate PBA cards. There should be no such thing as a get-out-of-jail-free card. It is universal petty corruption, which is corrosive to lawful society.
When I am King, one of the very first things I will do is stamp out this process. The notion that cops and friends of cops have special privileges is just obnoxious.
I deal with a lot of cops in my job, and they are always trying to give me "gold cards", which I politely decline. I am not going to participate in their protection racket.

Hopefully, he's being monitored. I don't see how a quick check could possibly prove that someone is not involved in terrorism.

Correct. He wasn't even here legally yet his address and employment "checked out".

For those of in the Shire, what is a gold card? The gold card indicates that you are a friend of the police department. You put behind you Driver's License in you wallet. (That's "licence" for those in the Shire).
When you are stopped by a police officer, you hand over your Driver's License with the gold card, and the policeman will do everything he can to not write you a ticket.
It is a petty little privilege that gets you out of having to follow the law. I doesn't mean you are allowed to kill people, or anything. But if you are running stop signs or have had one too many, it is a handy thing to have.
But I don't take them. I'll take my chances with the hoi palloi.

Why does a drug smuggler go 75 on the interstate with 300lbs of pot in the trunk.( Nate Newton). Being a terrorist does not always mean you are bright. In fact if you need to blow yourself up in a profession it does not bode well for you gene pool.

Do you recall that the Muslim terrorists who blew up the WTC in '93 were caught when they went to retrieve their $500.00 deposit on the Ryder truck?
Just like the idiotic video of Zarquawi mishandling an American weapon or the video of the "captured" toy soldier, it only goes to show that they are not only evil murderers, they are stupid criminals as well.
