EL PASO, Texas - Four U.S. soldiers accused of murdering suspected insurgents during a raid in Iraq said they were under orders to "kill all military age males," according to sworn statements obtained by The Associated Press.
The soldiers first took some of the men into custody because they were using two women and a toddler as human shields. They shot three of the men after the women and child were safe and say the men attacked them.

That is reason enough to shoot them.

This is despicable. Not only did they violate their rights while arresting them, they didn't Mirandize them either.
I'm sorry I misunderstood President Bush, when he said, "The police raid on terror"; I would have sworn he said, "WAR on terror".

Free our troops, Mr. President, and lay this pc charade down. They did the job you sent them to iraq to do. No one anywhere will lose any sleep about the "loss" of these terrorists who use women and children as shields. They are insects that need to be crushed like insects.

My heart fell at the beginning of the article, but by the end it looks like a case where we won't know the truth until the trial takes place.

Girouard is a liar and never received such an order.
I would expect that an interview of the rest of the 187th Infantry will reveal that Girouard and his three compatriots miraculously received an illegal order that no one else heard or received.
This is Girouard's lawyer's publicity stunt, since the lawyer knows that almost no one in the media has served in combat but they all have seen A Few Good Men.
The average talking head may not know who fought at the Battle Bulge or when it happened, but they can tell which movie "The truth? You can't handle the truth!" comes from.

You're probably right on the mark. Did you catch the telling phrase: "when witnesses changed their testimony after repeated interviews"
Part of the idea here is that people have no trouble remembering the truth, but a lie is difficult to remember. Therefore, if you re-interview enough times you'll catch the lies.
Unfortunately, it's a false belief ~ seems that "witnesses" aren't all that reliable in the first place, and they, themselves, may well see the same circumstances more than one way. Besides, the way the human brain/mind system works, we are always working against an image our brain has projected for us out of its real-time sensory inputs. Mistakes are made.
All the interrogators got out of these guys were minor inconsistencies and abbreviations ~ not lies.
Remember, too, military interrogators aren't all "good guys".
Although this is probably not as much of a hoax as the other "atrocity" stories, a couple of good lawyers are going to enable the troops to walk out of there free.

Four U.S. soldiers accused of murdering suspected insurgents during a raid in Iraq said they were under orders to "kill all military age males," according to sworn statements obtained by The Associated Press. READ the entire article TWICE, and NO WHERE does it even remotely, come close to touching on this misleading headline.
The closest is this:
"In sworn statements obtained this week by the AP, Girouard, Hunsaker, Clagett, and a witness, Sgt. Leonel Lemus, told Army investigators they were ordered to attack an island in northern Salahuddin province on May 9 and kill anti-Iraqi fighters with ties to al-Qaida. "
Ordered to kill anit-Iraqi fighters with ties to al-Qaida? Gee, thought that was the purpose and mission of our military?
Appropriated Press is a disgrace.
As an aside wonder who leaked signed sworn statements?
Assuming this is illegal?

I agree that the story is BS, which is why I posted it. We have to expose this obvious bias against our fighting boys and call those who publish such bile on it.

Girouard, Hunsaker and Clagett are also charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly threatening to kill another soldier if he told authorities what happened. This is the only part of the article that gave me pause.

"kill all military age males,"
If only it were so....
More likely is a a cut from a larger statement. Something like, be especially vigilant of young men , if they start acting suspicious kill them all quickly before they kill you and your buddies. Which is completely reasonable, in fact laudable because of it's demonstrated concern for GI safety.
Not something you might hear down at the local PD (hopefully) but reasonable for a Marine or Soldier in a Combat Zone.
This effort to parse every word and sentence of Soldiers and Marines in Combat has to stop. Any defense Lawyer should know that as well.
