USS Trenton and other ships belonging the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) arrived on station July 21, as part of Task Force 59, commanded by Brig. Gen. Carl Jensen, U.S. Marine Corps. At the request of the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon and at the direction of the Secretary of Defense, the United States Central Command and the 24 MEU are assisting with the departure of U.S. citizens from Lebanon.
