U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Friday dismissed growing pressure for an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah guerillas in Lebanon, calling it a "false promise" if the root causes of the conflict are not addressed.
"An immediate cease-fire without political conditions does not make sense," she told reporters at the State Department.
Rice will arrive for a brief visit to Israel on Monday, during which she is expected to receive an updated synopsis of the Israel Defense Forces' offensive in Lebanon.
"Syria knows what it needs to do and Hezbollah is the source of the problem," Rice said as she outlined U.S. hopes for a diplomatic solution to the current crisis.

Either you do remember and you agree with it...
...or you don't remember.
Either way, it's definitely illuminating your mindset quite well.
[aside] I wonder if you find Pat Buchanan to be a good conservative?
"Oh, wait, I forget that Rice hasn't yet met a Jew-killing terrorist that she didn't love."
That statement was dumb, as in, dumb as dirt, especially in light of the fact that she appears to be in favor of giving the IDF as much time as humanly possible to kill as many Hezzies as possible.
There's nothing wrong with Condi. It's the Olmert Government's war strategy that's defeatist. They should be halfway to the Bekaa Valley by now.
No, I don't think that Pat Buchanan is a good conservative. I think he's a nativist crank and an anti-Semite.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
Hmmm, if Condi Rice really does want to help Israel, then what's she doing saying that she'd like to work with Syria to deal with the Hizbollah problem.
Assad's a Jew-hating, Jew-killing b@st@rd... and one of the first things she does en route to the Middle East is state that she'd like to work with him. This is just another notch in her pro-Arab, anti-Jew belt.

More on Rice's... ahem... 'soft' position on terrorism (against Jews, that is).
