In California, before 9-11 I would sometimes go to gunshows, and sometimes I would see these guys in flowing muslim robes yakking away, carting out heavy pallets stacked waaaay high with 7.62 x 39, and SKS's and whatever, like they were girding for war.
It was such a sight that even at that placid time it really made people stop and gawk. But I mean, they weren't doing anythink ILLEGAL, or anything, right?
And they're ALL OVER the place. Not keeping that high a profile now, I believe, but there are many, many of them.
And our borders are as porous as ever, and that makes it REALLY HARD for me to consider this war on terrorism as anything really serious. The manpower, gear, and fancy budgets really do not impress me as long as local police officers are PROHIBITED from asking the most very basic questions in the world at traffic-stops, or whatever.
As long as things aren't firmed up back home, I just laugh at what we're doing overseas. I mean, we charge out the front door, guns ablaze, and the back door is wide-open with a neon sign advertising, "Vacancy", and everyone with any power is legally hand-cuffed from improving things and bringing actual peace of mind.
Anyone who showed up at a gun show in flowing robes around here would be stopped and questioned and probably escorted out.
In your view, why hasn't there been another large-scale terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11? If, on 9/12/01, someone told me there would not be another attack of this kind on U.S. soil for the next five years, I would not have believed them. No way.
It wasn't THAT placid. It only seemed that way. Sort of.
Guess what. They were.
Now gird thyself.
