Most people in the San Francisco Bay Area don't have AC either, and it has been a hot summer here with temps as high as 113.

We got A/C when I was pregnant with twins. The summer before it had been another hot summer in the Bay Area where we had temperatures well over 100 degrees. Since I was going to be pregnant with twins during the summer, I insisted on A/C.

We moved to a new house 2 years ago, and the A/C does not work well upstairs. Even with the A/C on it still gets to be around 84 degrees inside. I've been sleeping downstairs because it is cooler.

...where thermometers have hovered over the 30 degrees Celsius mark (86 degrees Fahrenheit) for several days...

I figured you could use a chuckle. ;-)

I think summer weather wise, SF and big chunks of Europe are quite similar.

I will say it depends where you live around here. I'm 30/40 miles inland, and it get hot. If you are at the coast it stays cooler, and then the redwood areas stay even cooler. A few weekends ago, we went camping just 40 minutes away (On the coast between Santa Cruz and San Francisco). It was over 100 degrees at our home, and it only got to the low 80s during the day at our campsite. At it got downright cold at our campsite.

The point being that you can always go somewhere to beat the heat in the Bay Area.

101 degrees in North Napa yesterday. I spent most of it out in the sun picking produce and trying to keep my rabbits from heat stroke. No AC as I usually don't need it.

Today, no matter how hot, I will be doing the same, after I leave some produce off at the Food Bank.

If we open our borders for anyone it ought to be Europe's elderly.

It would be cheaper and more practical to just buy them an air conditioner. Plug in a window unit, it can't be that hard or expensive.

You'd think. I've heard that some countries in Europe are having to buy electricity, though, which would drive already high prices up. Pensioners may not be able to afford the cost to run one even if they can afford to buy the air conditioner.

"Yeah. And that's one painful sunburn. I'd be perfectly happy to help them with the lotion, but noooooo..."

Yeah, Just roll over to the Spanish babe on the towel next door and ask her to go swimming. Say you are getting cold refreshments after drying off. Walk back with 3 cold drinks and these women are yelling and wrestling. I like that women are basically the same:) I told them both to shut up and sit down. I ended up dining with the Spanish gal and going to a disco where Swedish people hang around up the street.

You have to check Benidorm out. Every country has their own favorite discos and restaurants and hotels in that resort city.
