This doesn't surprise me one bit, and neither did the morality police possibly coming back to Afghanistan. It's why I consider Islam a cult rather than a religion.

Personally, I think Maliki is trying to unite Iraq any way he can. He's also trying to break away from the appearance of being a US puppet. I think his statements are politically, not religiously motivated.
