Lieberman said he would align with the RATS as an independent. He may flirt with aligning with the GOP just to make Harry Reid give him the committee assignments he wants, but Lieberman is a liberal at heart.

It's actually happening, there will(might) be a General Election for the Senate race in Connecticut. Figures this comes out a week after the Republican goes down the tubes.

A 3-way general election can be good if Republicans find a good candidate pronto.

It will also mean certain defeat for the Dems in 2006.
If they can not support Lieberman, then Americans will not support them.

So if Lieberman runs as an independent, he may still vote with the rats, but his official independent status will effect the percentage of seats+staff on committees.
No it won't. Jeffords is officially an independent, but he's a member of the Democratic caucus and so his seat counts in the number of Dem seats. It would be the same if Lieberman was an independent, but I also think that Lieberman will change his offical status right back to Dem.

You vill vote mit the Party or you vill be exterminated.

The ramifications for the Connecticut DEM Party if Lieberman loses and runs as a Independent in the General Election:
1. Fractures the Dem Voters and Reelects GOP Incumbent Reps Chris Shays and Rob Simmons who are in tough races.
2. Makes REP Governor Jodi Rell a winner by 40% instead of 30% over Dem Sacrificial lamb.
3. After Lieberman wins General, the fools at the Daily Kos will be finally de fanged.
4. A now victorious and pissed off Senator Joe Lieberman is free to vote his way and support the President on the war on terror.

Lieberman is an incumbent. Any incumbent loss is our gain.

It's true that Lieberman is a liberal. However, if he loses the primary and his fellow Democrats endorese Lamont in the general election, he won't have any real loyalty to his Democratic colleagues. And thus, me may be open to breaking with his party more often (like on partial birth abortion).
In any event, the GOP doesn't have a viable candidate, so it's the best we can hope for.
