"How many times has that happened in, say, the last 18 years--a moderate/"rino" governor handing over a Governor's seat to a Conservative? "

===

Ok, so why don't you and your "research assistant", fieldmarshaldj do some research and tell us:

HOW MANY TIMES DID A CONSERVATIVE GOVERNOR FOLLOW A LEFT LIBERAL ONE?

YOU are the one who is ignoring history: Davis, who has the charisma of a turnip, beat conservatives Simon and Lundgren by such a huge margin that it was pathetic.

Nobody who has any attachment to reality could possibly think that McClintock's chances of becoming governor would be higher, if he would be running against incumbent Angelides, then running after he's been Lt Gov under Arnold.

Say it, don't spray it. Do you want an analysis of all 50 states for the same period that I debunked the myth that a RINO/liberal Republican paves the way for a Conservative ?

"YOU are the one who is ignoring history: Davis, who has the charisma of a turnip, beat conservatives Simon and Lundgren by such a huge margin that it was pathetic."

He beat them both, indeed, but you ignore the reasons why this happened. Lungren had the enormous albatross of Pete Wilson tied around his neck, combined with the fact that he ran a very politically tone-deaf campaign. Simon had a smashing opportunity to beat Davis, but had the problem that the RINO establishment kneecapped him out of the chute AND his own mistakes that he allowed the momentum coming out of his smashing primary victory to peter out by November (you know full well the problem that CA has with such a huge amount of time between the primary and the general). Davis's margin was no "huge margin" in '02, scoring a paltry 47%, 11 full percentage points below his '98 performance (and over 1.3 million fewer votes). Simon, despite a lackluster performance, still scored 42%, 4% higher than Lungren's '98 performance.

I've already proven that they are greater for him than serving under Ah-nold. Have you already forgotten Jerry Brown and how the state (in a BAD GOP year nationally) in 1982 propelled a Conservative to the Governorship with Attorney-General Deukmejian ? That wouldn't have happened if some lackluster RINO boob had been retiring that year -- and we probably would've lost Sam Hayakawa's Senate seat, too.

... YOU are the one who is ignoring history: ...

They are not ignoring history, they are attempting to influence the future. They don't want to see the gubinator in it. What is a ilk to do?

Spin away , FO, you do that best of all the things you do,, Simon lost by 5 points in a race that he had zilch for support from his own party leadership even tho he won a primary fair and square over your golden boy Rairdon.

Lundgren was as dull a candiate as could be had, right up there with Matt Fong and Tom Campbell. They had another strike against them , none of them had New Majority backing.

And speaking of reality, is it me or is it getting hot in here? Must be Global Warming, huh? The facts are in, you know. That's what the GUb says, and gosh darn, so does Al Gore and Phil too. Reality sucks, huh?

Keep up your work here, altho the few votes you may commandeer just don't seem like they are worth it as most folks minds are already made up here. But that won't stop you from grandstanding and blasting others who have been here a heckuva lot longer than you and some others who have little to contribute except a Big Tent pole in any hole they can shove it in.

Oh, btw, I won't be voting for Phil and those who imply we have to vote as we are told, well, I guess they are just representative of what the CA GOP has become, a ship adrift in a sea of icebergs and nothing but more spending increases and long-term debt offeirngs on the horizon.

Yup, mighty conservative of you to lambaste those who saw it coming and now are expected to swallow the bitter fruit you so grudgingly offer as the only reasonable choice in the mix.

And you wonder why folks sit out elections and laugh at this state and the Keystone Kops running it deeper into the weeds.

Even La Raza must still be rolling in the aisles after the Gub and company hispandered for their support.

Yup, the Big Tent takes all comers these days. Yet you continue to blame the base for the predicament we all find ourselves in and all you can do is disparage others for the party's own failings, Go figure.
