Minutemen not watching over funds (Simcox Questioned Over Funds)
Washington Times. ^ | July 19, 2006 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 07/19/2006 7:30:46 PM PDT by Anti-Bubba182

A growing number of Minuteman Civil Defense Corps leaders and volunteers are questioning the whereabouts of hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of dollars in donations collected in the past 15 months, challenging the organization's leadership over financial accountability.

Many of the group's most active members say they have no idea how much money has been collected as part of its effort to stop illegal entry -- primarily along the U.S.-Mexico border, what it has been spent on or why it has been funneled through a Virginia-based charity headed by conservative Alan Keyes.

Several of the group's top lieutenants have either quit or are threatening to do so, saying requests to Minuteman President Chris Simcox for a financial accounting have been ignored....."

"..... The Minuteman organization has not made any financial statements or fundraising records public since its April 2005 creation. It also has sought and received extensions of its federal reporting requirements and has not given the Minuteman leadership, its volunteers or donors any official accounting. A financial statement promised to The Times by Mr. Simcox for May was never delivered....."

According to this page, Kunz works for Diener, and he does National Legislative, National Fundraising, National Financial/Caging, and National Legal for the MCDC.

Looks like he might be the one who ought to be filing the application for tax exempt status & preparing the financial report.

Maybe he's too busy building the fence. ;-)

She introduced Simcox to Keyes.

Minutemen skeptical of ties with Keyes project

".. Diener Consultants first contacted the Minuteman organization in early 2005, said Ms. Hair, the MCDC spokeswoman who also was a top adviser to Mr. Keyes in his presidential and senatorial races. She said she called Mr. Simcox after the Minuteman group was created to ask whether he had a media plan. After being told no, she said, she met with Mr. Simcox and Minuteman co-founder James Gilchrist in Washington and signed an agreement.

She and a colleague, Mary Parker Lewis, now president and chief executive officer at Politechs, a Los Angeles-based political consulting firm and a former officer at Diener Consulting, later introduced Mr. Simcox to Mr. Keyes. Mrs. Lewis also is an official with Declaration Foundation, Declaration Alliance and Renew America. .."

HERE is an HTML version of Vern Kilburn's letter of resignation from the leadership of the Texas chapter of MCDC, detailing his reasons & also giving some of the background of the Diener/Keyes people.

In short, Kilburn was upset at the financial situation, and also didn't want to be associated with some of these people, for reasons given over several pages.

I think you'll find it informative.

It does seem that so many people in this project have things taking them away from Arizona. Im eman Simcox had got to hit the speaking circut 6 out of 7 days. Kutz not only has to be building the fence and supervising the volunteers to make sure that no cuts their arm but he also hs to Lbby. Connie Hair has to be spokesman plus do a million other things.

I suspect though that their checks are Direct deposted so that helps them thank God

Or maybe they will not disclose at all, just like last year, and have Arizona disolve the MCDC, just like they did with his last group, last November.

I think there was a glitch earlier when we were discussing this.

Did he file for incorporation in Arizona when the old group disappeared, or is that one of the papers that is "pending" now? Or are they now incorporated under the Declaration Alliance?

There has been contoversy and covering for Simcox for a long time. Look at the exchange below about the TXminuteman.

Illogical letter to TxMM from Stacy O'Connell

Funny. They'll wait forever for Mr. Bush to build a fence ...but they expect Simcox to pull one out of his back pocket.

If it's anything like that 2.2 mile long cattle fence they put up, maybe some of those donors will wise up and invest their money elsewhere, and stop squandering their home mortgages on fool's gold.

In other words, no indication of the formation of the MCDC in Arizona, huh?

Is it true that Simcox actually wouldn't be able to pass his own background check? I hadn't heard about that part.

That is a good point. I wonder if that also would apply to the "old guard", the ones there from the beginning.

I think the real reason he was shut down is this little gem

http://www.americanpatrol.com/FEATURES/030320-ABP-REJECT-MILITIA-IDEA/SimcoxManifesto.html

When Bush supposedly called the Minutemen Vigilantes I am sure he was already aware of Simcox and his unilateral declaration of war on Mexico and had good reason to suspect any organization founded by him would fit that description to a tee.

Simcox brought this on himself. Even if nothing was misappropriated it still doesn't look right.

If it doesn't fit into the DemocRAT play book just perfectly, it doesn't look good. No matter what will be found out about the funds, Simcox and the Minutemen organization will have to answer Congressional questions, prove innocence instead of THEM proving guilt and deal with the liars in the MSM.
If millions have been collected, there has to be a paper trail somewhere. Nothing moves without leaving a paper trail. My opinion, of course, but what do I know, I'm a prejudice, Hispanic hater, white heterol married middle class slob.
