Not only did thousands of African Americans serve in militias and in the Continental Army, but thousands more served as drovers, sutlers, wagoneers, smithies, messengers, etc.
Further, John Glover's Marblehead Regiment (these were the fishermen-fighters who ferried the Continental Army across the East River after the disastrous Battle of Brooklyn and did the same across the Delaware) were, at times, up to 25% African American. Glover was a Congregationalist who believed that whites and blacks were equal in the Lord's eye.
And, let's not forget the all-black Rhode Island Regiment.

Old news for me. I knew Blacks were involved in American wars from the Revolution, Civil War, and World War II. There were Blacks in the Roman Empire and many were Centurions, generals, rich people, senators, and even emperors. Oh yeah, there were Black people in Asia, mainly Southeast Asia. There were Black emperors in China, mostly in the Shang Dynasty.
