So everyone should have houses that cost exactly the same, and everyone should drive exactly the same car, so everything will be fair and no one will live better than anyone else.
Not something I thought I'd see championed on FR.

The market in cars and houses is a free market. It is entirely possible to have very safe, comfortable, and reliable houses and cars being sold at a wide range of prices.
That you and your neighbors have good schools becuase of buying into a neighborhood is evidence of a grossly distorted market in education. This abomination exists because government has a price-fixed monopoly on education.
If government ran price-fixed monopoly grocery stores, you and other would be buying houses in good neighborhoods just so you could have access to a decent government grocery store.
Think about it. Why are you sucking the blood of those making far less than you so that your little darlings can move into a neighborhood with good schools? If you and your neighbors can afford those homes, you could afford to live in a somewhat less expensive home and pay TUITION for your children's education. The very fact that you can afford to live where you do is due to the subsidy given to you by others who are earning far less. You get the good school and they get crap!
You pay for your child's food, clothing, housing, and transportation. Education should not be any different.
Government schools are one of the biggest transfers of wealth from the poor to the financially well-off. It is not equitable.
