We have to find a way to not only detect them, but collapse them as well.

Looks like we need underground drones.

Perhaps we can look for plumes of CO2 enriched atmosphere coming from the ground and moving with the wind. Supposedly many insect pest can find their 'hosts' by following the CO2 plume.
