The campaign for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate, already marked by accusations and countercharges, has been ratcheted up again. Ed Bryant over the weekend substituted his TV ad titled "Statesman" with a new one - called "How Can We Trust Bob Corker?" - that sharply criticizes the former Chattanooga mayor for changing his position on abortion.
Corker said as an unsuccessful U.S. Senate candidate in 1994 that he opposed abortion but felt it was not a government concern. He has said he changed his mind several years ago and is now anti-abortion.
But Bryant, a former federal prosecutor and congressman from Jackson, accuses Corker of changing his position to fit his political ambitions.
"I won't change my convictions with each election," Bryant says in the ad.

Well, that may be true, but if Corker wins the primary, you are just getting another RINO. So Bryant and Hilleary are right to be attacking Corker.
Ed Bryant is finally on the air, exposing Bob Corker for what he is (a Democrat running in a GOP primary).
Tennessee Freepers should put Ed Bryant signs in their yards and magnets on their cars. He is worthy of conservative support, even when it's politically risky.
Actually, Bob Corker is not a Republican who is moderate. He is a Democrat running in the Republican primary. And an opportunist to boot.
Perhaps, but who can say for sure? Bob Corker is like that in many ways other than abortion.
With Ed Bryant, you know you're getting Constitutional Conservativism.
I am not convinced that Corker is a RINO.
Where is the evidence that Corker is a RINO. I am not saying that he might not be but I just haven't seen the evidence.
Corker launced new ads attacked both Bryant and Hilleary.
He must be getting worried.
It would really suck if Corker were to win.
I live in Chattanooga. Corker is a RINO.
I don't pretend to be informed about this race. I just thought that passage was worded rather oddly.
Obviously, if I was a voter in that primary, I'd vote for the conservative.
"I won't change my convictions with each election," Bryant says in the ad."
What are Mr. Bryant's convictions on this issue? I assume that he is anti-abortion. Am I correct in thinking that most Freepers are pulling for him in the Primary?
One more thing: I think there should be state laws allowing for voters to recall politicians who "change their mind" on an issue once they arrive in Washington.
Bryant and Hilleary are both true conservatives. Corker has considered running on the dem ticket in the past, has contributed to dem candidates, and even openly campaigned for dem candidates. Corker getting the GOP nomination here would be a disaster.
Corker needs to be run out of the GOP on a rail.
Yes, Ed Bryant is fervently pro-life. Both he and Van Hilleary are strong Constitutionalist conservatives, but Bryant is the stronger candidate for the general election.
And just where would I find signs and magnets? I have seen absolutely no Ed Bryant presence in Middle Tennessee. The only ads I am hearing & seeing are Bob Corker ad nauseum. I'm afraid Corker is going to win on name recognition. Most voters are ill informed and vote on name recognition alone. Between that and the Dems who will jump over the fence to vote in the Repub primary, I am getting very worried. The one bright spot is that Bob Corker sounds stupid in his ads, and he may be turning people off.
You could get them at your local Republican headquarters, or perhaps call the campaign and ask to have them mailed.
Bryant is underfunded, and Hilleary's campaign has a lot of conservative donors sitting on the fence.
