Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Angelo Sodano said Pope Benedict and his aides were very worried that the developments in the Middle East risked degenerating into "a conflict with international repercussions."
"In particular, the Holy See deplores right now the attack on Lebanon, a free and sovereign nation, and assures its closeness to these people who already have suffered so much to defend their independence," he told Vatican Radio.
So has Bush; he's been demanding Israeli "restraint" and cautioned them about harming Lebanon's "fragile democracy". Though I personally hope Isreal drives Hezbollah into total destruction, the Pope's concerns about this conflict turning into an big international war are certainly well founded. But as for me, I look at the bigger picture instead of just what the Vatican has said, (which, by the way, must be translated from at least two languages before it reaches America, and then must be twised in the msm). That being said, Bush and Tony Blair have also strongly cautioned Israel, demanding 'restraint', and expressing their fears of Israel's assault "damaging Lebanon's democracy".
Of course the biggest lie coming from the anti-Vatican crowd is that the Holy Father "condemned" Isreal, when in fact he pleaded with them, along with the rest of the entire world, for restraint. The Vatican will never condemn Israel. The Vatican has, however, condemend the very core of islam, with the Pope himself recently stating that islam and democracy cannot mix unless "the koran is re-interpreted".
