The New York Times plans to cut 250 jobs and shrink the size of its pages in 2008, making them 3.8 centimetres narrower, the newspaper reported in yesterday's edition.
The newspaper's plans include closing a printing plant in Edison, N.J.
The moves were estimated to save the company $42 million per year. The reduction in the size of its pages would mean a loss of 11 per cent of the space devoted to news, but the newspaper plans to add pages to make up for about half of that loss.

dung.
But the good news is that they are saving trees!
Great news. Maybe that socialist/communist, anti-American, enemy-supporting tabloid will go out of business.
Funny how the more balanced NY Post is actually doing quite well...
Do yourselves a favor and DIVEST NYT STOCK!!!
Take a look at the Yahoo! message board for NYT. The natives are getting restless.

adjusted for inflation probably makes it worth $5.00 in 1988 dollars :)
Bail out? Subsidies? Tax breaks?
Is there not ONE Conservative with enough dough to form a hostile takeover of this Red Rag?

I have always wondered WHY someone did not build a patriotic, pro-American, real American newspaper?? It would sell beyond belief. With all the investment money that is available, it could be easily done.
Just envision a newspaper (I know it is difficult) that acutally reported the news ACCURATELY, WITHOUT LYING. Hard to fathom, I know, but it would be as big a hit, as Rush Limbaugh's show. Maybe bigger!!!
I would buy stock in it!!!
If it breaks $20, it will soon be at $10...
Treason doth never prosper...
Saw some dopey dame on Fox News yesterday trying to explain the losses on the internet. But with the success of other newspapers like the NY Post, that excuse doesn't ring true at all.
"The company has two types of stock, Class A and Class B. Class B shares are not publicly traded, and are the mechanism by which the descendents of Adolph Ochs, who purchased the New York Times newspaper in 1896, maintain control of the company."
Now it will less useful for wrapping fish.
Seeing this treasonous rag go belly-up would be almost as satisfying as seeing "Pinch" strapped to a collapse board in front of a squad of Marines with M-14's.
