I'm no more impressed with a silly local stunt like this on national tax policy than I would be if there were nonbinding who-cares resolutions on hugging tress, lowering gas prices or saving baby seals.
Crackpot schemes like the FairTax never get any traction in Washington because there are too many sober people around. FDR was right -- radicals are people with both feet planted firmly in the air. Nobody with any sense in Washington is going to subject the American and Global economy to such simplistic nonsense. This fraud will be lucky to even get a hearing -- much less make it out of committee.
Your characterization is ignorant of the STATES that are investigating a STATE fair tax for their states. Georgia is one of them.
While this particular article is by a paid entertainer and is likely inaccurate, it is the case that in primaries across the state, candidates were either for or against the "Georgia FairTax" as one of the bullet points on flyers, mailers, etc.
You ain't from these parts, are ya?
Well, then, it's obvious - this is not Washington, DC you are talking about!
CA....
Are you a tax attorney in fear of your job? Do you prefer that paying taxes be a highly complicated matter only understandable by professionals?
I'm highly suspect of your true motives here at Free Republic. I can't imagine any TRUE conservative referring to the Fair Tax plan as a "Crackpot Scheme" like you just did.
