There was a famous lesbian couple who wanted a deaf child (they were both deaf and played the odds in selecting a semen sample to genetically craft a deaf child).

Their first born was a boy (I think he was deaf). I think they eventually got their deaf girl they so wanted.

PBS did a profile on them (and did not call them abusive monsters).

I saw that episode and the child (girl) wanted desperately to hear and could have had a cochlear implant that would have given her that chance.

The parents and deaf friends and relatives reaction? Absolutely not!

They didn't want the girl to be 'normal' because they were afraid of her losing her 'special' status in society.

I found it unbelievable that these parents thought is wrong for the girl to want to be 'normal'.

They finally 'convinced' her to give up having the implants.
