It's sudafed....not the way you spelled it...your sounds like an anti-depressant!
"This whole WoD is a sham and anyone with a half brain would see that."
Unfortunately, all too often the people advocating exactly what you say do have half a brain. We need fewer Woody Harrelsons and more Catos.
"It seems something new on the drug market. Where does one go about discovering what this drug is and does to people? And, why is it so popular?"
Nothing new at all ... most of the outrageous police chases you've seen on television for the past decade are in pursuit of a Meth head behind the wheel of a car. Methamphetamine produces what some describe as a euphoric high, compared to an hours-long orgasm. It puts the libido into overdrive, fuelling all-night-long orgies, although it can severely impact some males' ability to perform. It has a severe and fairly rapid impact upon the health of anyone using it frequently, and is highly addictive. The time lapse mug shots in a previous post show the extreme aging effects of Meth, in adddition to hinting at "Meth mouth," a peculiarity produced by the causticity of the drug ... tooth enamel is eroded away, and teeth then soften, blacken, rot away and fall out. That's why the woman's face looks so collapsed in the last several frames. It's bad news, worse than cocaine or even heroin, in my opinion. Meth is behind a lot of the more bizarre violent acts that you hear about.
Meth, short for methamphetamine, has been around for a long time- it used to be called "speed". It is a stimulant that became popular among truckers who wanted to stay awake at the wheel and university students who would take it so they could spend several days studying without a break.
Back in the 1960s and 197s the catchphrase was "speed kills" because even the druggies who were into everything else knew it was bad news.
Thank you for the information. Reading about it - All I can say is Oh Good Grief, why would anyone want to do this!
I could go along with that, but NO importation of coca from Bolivia while it is under a socialist government.
"What exactly is Meth?"
Meth is short for methamphetamine, and is not new.
It is a very powerful and long lasting stimulant with a high similar to cocaine, but lasting much longer.
In the 60's we all knew that "Speed Kills" and abuse of this stuff was not too widespread except on the West Coast.
Don't know why it has gotten so popular recently. Really good precursors were available back then which made the production of methamphetamine easier and cleaner, but there wasn't much demand for it.
It's one damn destructive drug. I've seen the results locally, and they are not pretty.
Thank you for the info!
Thanks for posting this. I was going to put it up a few days ago when I first spotted it in the local paper. But, after being pounded here for posting info and quotes from my cop friends (a detective, a chief of police and a county sheriff), I decided that I'd spare myself the abuse.
Re-read the article carefully.
The stated conclusions are from local law enforcement officials who are themselves the addict-prostitutes of federal anti-drug appropriations.
How much is this about preventing crime versus enriching bureaucrats?
Maybe he meant "pseudoephedrine." Pseudoephedrine HCl is the actual name of the drug. It's sold under a bunch of names: Sudafed, Actifed, Sinutab, etc.
My mistake...I apolgize for my stupidity on the subject.
That may be because less potent pharmaceutical amphetamines were pretty readily available. IIRC, the '60's were the heyday of diet pills.
OMG, The Cancer society has been telling us that tobacco and nicotine are the #1 problem.
MADD has been telling us that alcohol is the #1 problem (which by any objective use of statistics, it clearly is.)
Half the METH deaths are the makers of meth who blow up in their own stills. How is that a problem?
Stay in? Just when you think that is safe, listen to this.....the other day I did a history search on my computer to find out that an 11 y/o neighbor was doing searches on this drug and locating what he thought was funny photos of animals exposed to it. AND showing it to my 8 y/o child who at that point, never knew about drugs. At that point I researved the right to have a very serious in depth conversation about the effects of drug use and to never do another search on our computer again. Plus another stunt along those lines he won't be invited back.
I think speed has historically been a "blue collar" drug. It seems a lot of the people who get addicted to it start out using it to stay awake/alert putting in overtime or working extra shifts. Paradoxically, this is described as "recreational use of a narcotic" (narcotic means "sleep inducing").
