Conclusion: This statement is one of the more obvious realities in today’s world. The civilized world is endangered when any nation joins the nuclear club. Certain nations, by their actions, demonstrate that they are not responsible members of the world’s nations. It is the responsibility of all on our planet to not allow a rogue nation to obtain nuclear weapons.
Supporting arguments:
For many years, in fact since World War II, North Korea has demonstrated a defiance to the rest of the world. This defiance has not only been deadly to other nations, including our own, put devasting to its own people. This negligent regime has gone from bad to worse. Some practical aspects of dealing with a country such as North Korea fall victim to the partisan politics that have a grip on today’s America. First, North Korea is not to be trusted. Any agreement must be verifiable by neutral parties, not China or Russia. In this regard, this writer supports the path that the current administration seems to be taking of “quiet diplomacy”. Any direct action we may take could endanger Japan and South Korea, both dependable and reliable allies. In the pursuit of a diplomatic solution, while we cannot abdicate our role as leader of the free world, we must defer the lead role in dealing with North Korea to Japan. Why Japan, you ask. Two facts catapult Japan to the prime leadership role in the North Korea dilemma. First, in any and all issues involving a nuclear threat, Japan should be first and foremost in the lead because of the simple fact that it has the distinction of being the only country that has fallen victim to the use of nuclear weapons. In the case of North Korea, the geographical proximity is the second factor. In this dangerous situation, clear thinking dictates a firm and resolute approach without unilateral military action.
