BEIRUT — Thousands of Americans whose vacations and business trips to Lebanon have degenerated with sickening speed into stints in a battle zone remained stranded here under Israeli bombardment Monday, their frustration and anger mounting because the U.S. government hasn't gotten them out faster.
Waiting around Beirut with bags packed and fingers crossed, U.S. citizens derided the embassy for busy phone lines, a lack of information and gnawing uncertainty over when and whether they will get out. Hundreds were expected to be shipped to Cyprus today, but how long the full evacuation will take remains uncertain.

Who the heck is trying to get anyone banned? A freeper was suspended (or banned - you can never tell) for arguing with the mods.
Wonder how many registered Republicans go to Beirut for vacation....
Frankly, what is anyone's justification for going there.... Odds are high that the sympathies for the ex-pat and vistors does NOT run with Israel...

That's the post you agreed with. All the freeper you called a "liar" is saying is that Rebel is most certainly not on vacation.
Many including me tried to explain it is not the SDs only function to rescue citizens in those situations, and fact is when all is said and done they do perform, just not as smooth and speedy as many would like. Again US not obligated to citizens out of country w/exceptions. I note he was not trashing UN, his employer of sorts that gave him only way out to Syria. LOL
And yes, we all understand that military planning needs to be done for the extractions. It's a dicey situation and I was a wreck that the helicopters would be shot at; they still could be shot at.
Well Peach, you and "all" (whoever that is) may understand that, but rebel didn't want to hear it. That is what caused the ire against him from military families, including me.
But it is noted by a lot of people in a lot of countries that somehow France was able to extract their people a lot faster. Why is that? Weren't they afraid of being shot at?
Oh give me a break- France has been snuggling with the terrorists for years, why would they be afraid? The US on the other hand has been killing and imprisoning terrorists and destroying terrorist networks worldwide in recent years. I'm pretty happy about that, but it does at times cause things to be dicey for US. You know this Peach- really, and so does rebel_yell2.
The hostage language was an unfortunate choice of words, but I can guarantee you that DC and other governments aren't delighted that the port is not accessible and that the airport is unusable before over 100K people were extracted.
Fact is when referring to being hostage in ME these days, one pictures someone who is about to be beheaded. Again, give me a break. How can you guarantee anything about what US or other gov'ts thinks about what Israel is doing? You have no more idea of that than anyone else out of the official loop. You're all entitled to your feelings as I'm entitled to mine. I'm not trying to change your mind but when I see outright lies posted about him or his posts, I'll challenge them.

You honestly believe that? Do you know there's a judge in France who is one of the first people the FBI called on 9/11? Do you know that he flew here first thing after the planes were ungrounded and that France, aside from being snide and not siding with us in the UN, has actually helped us capture people? FGS.

Hey - if freepers are comfortable condemning a fellow freeper in a war zone, that's on them. It doesn't reflect well on them, but they'll have to live with it.

Go back and re-read. Rebel_yell2 is the one that said Lebanon was a vacation spot until Israel took action against Hez. A poster pasted the State department warnings of dangers and concerns before this happened. Maybe some of the posters thought rebel was there on vacation but many were referring to those who were stranded there who actually were on vacation and not rebel personally.
Could you people be just a little more paranoid? I've never seen anything like it. Maybe this is what courage means to you. Going up against freepers on Free Republic, all while fearing being banned.
Maybe that's where the misunderstanding came in about Rebel being on vacation - that he mentioned Lebanon had become a vacation spot.
He's not wrong about that, you know. My mother was stunned when she heard that on television and said it was compared to the French Riviera.
I think the newbie comment was directed at someone who signed up yesterday or today and posted only in rebel's defense, and not on any other threads. Could be wrong, but you should double check that. You need to read thread start to finish, you are getting some things really wrong yourself and yet calling others liars, which is a pretty strong word. Each time you post that people are lying you really need to provide proof in the same post.
