Wow...that is quite a story..
Thank you for posting that...and tell your friends I am praying for them.
"I'm surprised by the fact that they haven't managed to hit Tel Aviv yet - maybe they didn't have so many of those longer range ones and Israel wiped them out?"
I'm more inclined to believe Hizbullah is holding on to them as weapons of last resort with the thought that if we (Hizbullah) are going to be taken out of business, let's see if we can fire a couple of these big boys off into the heart of Israel and try to drag the whole place down
1) What's the latest on rebel_yell2....is he out of Beirut and out of harms way?
2) Is there a good internet radio/tv live feed giving up to date news on happenings in Israel and Lebanon?
3) Is this the best single thread to check periodically for the latest war happenings in Israel for today?
Any help/info for us office bound would be appreciated.

He's just beyond anything, isn't he? When people spend too much time in an intellectual bubble their views seem to warp and distort..
I'm discovering that Sunnis and quite a few of the Shia don't support Hezbollah at all. I haven't come across one Iraqi who supports Hezbollah. In fact, they're saying Hezbollah is "majnoun" (crazy).
Our contacts in Lebanon are telling us they've wanted Hezbollah eradicated for a long time. Several of them who are right there in the middle of it are saying things like they hope they wipe out Hezbollah, regardless of what it takes. Siniora isn't coming off too well either in the communications we're hearing. They're irritated that he's never done anything about it all along.
Of course, they have their supporters, mostly radical Shiites, but it looks like that support isn't that strong around the region.
I popped for CNN pipeline to get feeds. I am not sure what, if anything, the other news services are offering.
This is certainly the best thread to discuss what's going on, and we do update with great regularity. If you want to discuss a particular story in more depth, you might find a thread with that story. There's a lot of them out there.
And there are at least two pinglists for news stories regarding Israel.
I'd expect the Sunnis not to support Hizbullah...but if there really are a good number of Shia against them...that's great.
Here's a concern...as bad as Siniora is..what will happen if his governement fails and topples? Won't we end up with a REALLY bad Hizbollah government?
1. see above
2. Radar
1. Hezbollah Rocket Launcher. Hard to believe you could get anything better than plus/minus a CEP mile or so with a launcher like that. Even that might be doing good. But easy to hide, easy to move, easy to get out of the way of return fire.
2. Again with LLSS in mind: Which Israeli Radar for targeting?
News just coming off the wires within the last ten minutes:
Rocket Hits Haifa House, Several Injured
18:11 Jul 18, '06 / 22 Tammuz 5766
(IsraelNN.com) A Hizbullah terrorist rocket attack in Haifa hit a house, and several people are being treated for injuries the extent of which are not yet known. In Nahariya, a man was killed while he was on his way to a bomb shelter, and a second person also was injured. Residents are being told to stay in bomb shelters at this moment because of more early warning signals of impending attacks.
Dozens of rockets also hit Tiberias, Meron and Tzfat in the last two hours, and explosions were heard in the Golan Heights. No injuries were reported.
Looks like that recent strike into Hafia did some damage and caused an unspecified number of casualties, extent of injuries yet known. At what point does Israel say ENOUGH and send in the groundpounders. That's the only way you are going to eradicate the missile threat. Think of it this way, How sucessful were we in Gulf War I in taking out SCUD launchers? (answer: not very) Most of the Hizbullah weapons systems are at least one magnitude smaller (except maybe for the Zedzel). It seems to me that if Israel really wants the BS from its northern bordre to stop a buffer zone needs to be created

You could be right, but I'm not so sure. I would think that since these longer ranged missles are harder to hide that they would have wanted to launch them as soon as possible before they got targeted and destroyed. There were some that were hit yesterday in fact.
Problem for the IAF with these weapons is because of their range they really don't need to be transported to the front in order to fire them into TelAviv. So long as they are well concealed, they can be erected from close to where they are stored and then fired. I've heard alot of conflicting reports about these missiles range from anywhere bwtn 100-250 km (anybody know the distance bwtn Beruit and TelAviv?)

I suspect they are holding back on the longest range rockets until Israel moves in on the ground.

Forty to fifty percent of Hizbullah's military capability has been destroyed in the six days of the IDF counter-attack following last Wednesday's Hizbullah raid in northern Israel, The Jerusalem Post has learned.
The IDF, it is understood, believes it needs another week or so minimum to achieve its military goals in terms of alleviating Hizbullah's capacity to threaten Israel.

Is this a prelude to an ground incursion/invasion or just more of the same.
I'm also getting a little concerned about the INN report of a rocket hitting a house in Hafia with several injuries. Usually Israel is pretty quick about letting people know that there are no injuries/deaths. When time lapses like this i fear the worst
