The greatest mistake Israel could make at the moment is to forget that Israel itself is a mistake.

What more could you expect from the Washington Compost? I knew the liberal scum would start crawling out from beneath the rocks to start trashing Israel.
But I'm just stunned at this story. I thought Al Gore and John Kerry couldn't be wrong whenever they open thier mouths, but this guy makes them look downright sane.
He writes as if no jewish people lived in the land that is now Israel until 1948. What a monumental anti-semitic vile scumbag.

told him by his reasoning America is a mistake...we should give S Dakota to the Sioux, Louisiana to the French and Mr Cohen's house to whatever Indian tribe camped on that land 200 years ago. Oh, I also called him a fat bourgeois coward.

Seems to me the issue is not whether contries have the ability to defend themselves, but rather, what rules they should comply with when they do?
Shooting unguided missiles at non-combatant residences while hiding behind noncombatant civilians, and not wearing uniforms is in violation of several of the rules of the Geneva Convention.
Uniformed combatants, operating machinery that drops bombs, or shoots missiles at enemy headquarters, or enemy positions from which attacks are launched within all the rules of the geneva Convention.
Neutral nations are required to prevent private citizens, non-government organizations, private residents, or soldiers from a foreign power from committing acts of war from their territory. If they fail to do that, the formerly neutral nations lose the previous right to claim neutrality.
I think that explains the situation fairly well.
If a nation is unable to resist, and wants a conflict to stop, the normal procedure is to recognize defeat, ask for terms, and accept the terms, and comply with them. So long at no terms are accepted, the nation that is unable to resist has no cause to complain, so long as the country attacking them complies with the Geneva conventions.

LOL, the Arabs have been mistakenly whooped more than enough times to understand clearly Israel is NO mistake. They just like to remind themselves of it every now and then.

Cohen believes that Israel was created by a British mandate in 1948. Actually it was created much earlier and by a much more senior power.
That the existence of Israel would become a thorn in the side of the vast Arab territories was also forecast in some great historical book.

Cohen is a common Hebraic name but it is also widely common among non-Jews (for some odd reason... but who am I to argue against U.S. Census figures). I think this particular mental giant may suffer from a Chomsky-like level of both self and Jew hatred.
The sheer bile of some of the things said and written about Jews and Israel lately are very very telling. Every wise person should take notice of this. Over the past few years the left has slowly but surely become more anti-semtic. First with the origin of the term "Neo-Con" to label Jewish supporters and members of the Bush administration (Kristol, Krauthammer, Perle, Wolfowitz, etc) and then more overtly the so called "Israel Lobby" which they claim controls US foreign policy. They are betraying their true intentions and letting the mask slip with these statements.

Do these people actually have to be/act so damn stupid to get and hold a position at a Company/Corporation that mainly just consumes a lot of printer ink?

It is why Israel is now fighting an organization, Hezbollah, that did not exist 30 years ago and why Hezbollah is being supported by a nation, Iran, that was once a tacit ally of Israel's. Well there was this little thing called a revolution in Iran, which changed the landscape considerably. What a sloppy piece this is. Does he even know the origins of Hezbollah? Ignorant column.
To: Scarchin
More could done to eliminate terrorism if Jewish anti-semites were the targets of Islamofascist missles. Israel's greatest problem is not Hezbollah, but its internal Fifth Column of post-Zionists and Jewish anti-Semites within its chattering classes.

<> Judt, Cohen, Reinhart, Chomsky, Gordon and Pappe all want to Israel destroyed. Think about what that means. Jews who loathe the very existence of the Jewish State. When it comes to the fate of Israel, the extreme Left and the Islamofascists find common ground.

There is no point in condemning Hezbollah. Zealots are not amenable to reason. And there's not much point, either, in condemning Hamas. It is a fetid, anti-Semitic outfit whose organizing principle is hatred of Israel. There is, though, a point in cautioning Israel to exercise restraint -- not for the sake of its enemies but for itself. -Richard CohenI liked this head-shaker. -JennysCool
Headshaker is right. Once in a while, one of these geniuses vomits out the lame "reasoning" behind their morally ignorant positions. They actually justify letting barbarians off the hook. Is this why Amnesty International had to be cajoled into condemning atrocities by insurgent (terrorist) groups in Iraq?
They say: "Condemn terrorism? Why bother?? Of course they're evil, everybody knows it already! It wouldn't do any good ... they just ignore us (sigh) ... but criticize the USA or Israel for perceived infractions du jour ... that's what livin' is all about!"

Shamefully, they have willingly become a hideous perversion of the Sonderkommando .
