"Why is it the world's problem?"

Read the gospels. All of them. Or even just the first one. Or even just the red lettered words of Jesus. From "love your neighbor as yourself" to "whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" to "it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to go to heaven" to "sell all your possessions and give to the poor" to "blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy" to the words of James, the Lord's brother:

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

On my darkest days, I realize how marvelously blessed I am, living in abundance of food, medical care available for even my minor ills, peace and comfort envied by most of the world. It would not hurt even one of us to contribute toward helping those poor children. It is a real problem.

Perhaps you are not believers. But as Freepers, your callous attitude rips the heart out of conservatism.

Really? I seem to recall a section mentioning how stealing is a no no as well. Having the Federal government steal my tax dollars to give to corrupt turd world nations to combat a problem THAT THEY THEMSELVES perpetuate and embezzle the majority of it to the point its of no use to those suffering - well suffice it to say I think I'll pass. Your soul troubled by this epidemic? How much have YOU shelled out? Nothing huh? Guess its easier to wax outraged and vote for politicans who use thug tactics to get it from the rest of us.

Oh and shame on you for using the Bible to advance such nonsensical policies.

US sends out billions in foreign aid money.
Most of us are tax payers.
I'd say most of us have given more than our fair share. What's the rest of the world doing about the problem?

Thank you. It is threads like this that make me believe I don't belong at FR at all. I find it hard to believe that so many can read the story, without feeling anything at all for these children. I don't know which is more sad, kids with no parents or people with no feelings.
