We may not be as safe as we could be, but certainly more so than if a Dim were in office. Of course, the things that WOULD make us more safe, neither of the Big Two Parties has an interest in implementing.
Seal the Border. Repeal ALL gun control laws. Call up citizen militia's to help with policing their neighborhoods/borders.
Any one of those three would be a hell of a lot more effective than the TSA or Homeland inSecurity has been.

Damn good idea. I mean we really don't need more cops we just need responsible citizen patrols in our cities.
Granted there would be some asskicking to do at first but in less than 6 months the cities' crime rate would be 90% off what it is today.
