I believe a missile has guidance, where a rocket is more of a pure ballistic trajectory weapon aimed at a general area.

Well, a missile is anything propelled toward a target, and even David's slingshot stone was a missile. But, returning to your point, not all missiles have guidance, although all long-range or sophisticated ones do.
