Israeli air strikes are NOT intended to kill civilians, unlike the Hezbollah missiles which intentionally target civilian areas. Civilian deaths are tragic but Israel dropped leaflets warning people to stay away from Hezbollah strongholds. The major issue is that the cowards known as Hezbollah deliberately locate their facilities and missile launch sites near residential areas. The cowards use the "kinsmen" as human shields. Hamas did this several years ago (before they had control of Gaza) by seizing homes located near churches in Arab areas, then launching missiles into Israeli areas.
Agree, Israel should extend the air strikes to Syria. And what would be advisable is the US should issue warning to Iran, interfere and we will turn your military and nuke facilities to glass.
That is the problem when States play the Terror game. Besides being a war crime according to the Geneva Conventions, terrorists are all civilians. You blow up a Hizbullah barracks and the hundred guys killed will be listed in the news as civilian because they do not, by the very definition of terrorist, wear a uniform.
The only thing you can do as a warrior in the military is to do your best to target the infrastructure and the combatants with the country you are at war with, minimizing the civilian casualties. This is legal, proper and honorable. This is what Israel and the United States along with the "civilized" world does.
Make no mistake, this is a war, started by Lebanon, Syria and Iran and it will have great numbers of casualties. Lebanon has had five years to move its troops down to the southern border and get the Hizbullah under control. Heck, their army could have crawled on its belly from the Capitol city to the border by now. The excuse that it is just too hard to get there is ludicrous. Instead, they have allowed Hizbullah to build TV stations inside their cities. There is no doubt that Lebanon's government is responsible for its own territory.
The place to hit the enemy is where the army is. The Army is in Lebanon. Lebanon will be hit. Syria and Iran may have supplied the arms, but hitting them would be, at this point of the escalation, only revenge. They have cut the supply lines from those nations, the only reason to attack them beyond that is to directly attack their armies, IF those armies cross the border.
What Israel wants is the rockets to stop raining on its cities.
First they tried diplomacy, when that failed they are trying to get Lebanon to stop it, if that fails, Israel may have to invade to stop it. Or, where I think this is going, a full scale nuclear war may develop.
Besides all this, what point is it to try to judge Israel's accuracy at hitting only military targets built within the center of cities, when Lebanon is targeting the cities themselves?
Israel is following the rules of war, Lebanon is targeting civilians directly, and that is a war crime. I have little pity for the whining of Lebanon's leaders, when this is over, they should be executed in a world war crimes court, not fawned over by CNN and the BBC.
