With 22 Huntington police officers asked to work security Saturday at the funeral of Staff Sgt. Paul S. Pabla, the department was prepared for the expected arrival of protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church, officials said.
What officers werent expecting was trouble from about 100 others who showed up to protest the Westboro demonstration.
Police charged two men with disorderly conduct before the start of the 11 a.m. funeral at Huntington North High School, Huntington Police Capt. Tom McCutcheon said. The men were not jailed, police said.
One of the men arrested charged the group of seven Westboro protesters, which included one man, and the other threw a water bottle at them, McCutcheon said.
About 120 first responders, including firefighters, emergency workers and emergency management officials, attended the funeral, McCutcheon said.

Huntington, Indiana is the hometown of former Vice-President Dan Quayle.
Phelps is a demon.
Sounds like they didn't follow the standard FReep rules and bit at the Phelps crowd's provocations.
Exactly, and that is a polite way of putting it.
What officers werent expecting was trouble from about 100 others who showed up to protest the Westboro demonstration.
Yeah, it's the fault of the good guys.
7 Westboro jerks and 100 anti-Westboro protestors. Way to go!
Flaming Fred Felps and his band of bent-over bootie boys are coming closer and closer to a good ol' fashion butt kicking. Few deserve it more than the inbred felps family.
If I am on the jury, I will vote to acquit whoever kicks their butts.
Phelps is counting on being physically attacked. That is how his little cult makes their money. They sue people for "violating their civil rights".
Time to bring out the big guns...sue these wackjobs for mental anguish, and destroy them with court costs. Let the litigation lawyers destroy them with legal fees.
Nobody's First Amendmendment rights are violated this way, but the protests are too costly to comtemplate.
With Freedom comes responsibility for one's actions.
You're playing right into Phelps hands. He's counting on someone crossing the line.
"Time to bring out the big guns...sue these wackjobs for mental anguish, and destroy them with court costs. Let the litigation lawyers destroy them with legal fees. "
Great idea! And no class action stuff. All individual suits so you keep the jerk busy and cost him LOTS of money.
Not likely to be effective. Lawsuits are only effective against those with deep pockets. Phelps and the rest of this inbred clan have next to nothing to lose, so they'd just show up for court, sign off on a judgement they'll never be able to pay and hit the streets again.
There are other ways to take care of bullies like the Phelpses.
That's all I'm sayin'.
Since I'm a Fort Wayne resident it's great to see my homies taking on this sick demagogue. Go try your anti-American B.S. in Madison or San Francisco. Do it in Indiana, and you get a bottle thrown at you. Phelps can sue if he wants, but NO jury around here is going to give him and his wacked-out seven-member "movement" a dime. You'll notice that despite having committed a "felony" none of the good guys were even jailed.
